I know shumpert does get some minutes at PG but he makes too many careless turnovers. He is always taking his eye off the ball and defenders are catching him on it. I actually think he is a smart basketball player but I am not sure that his handle can get good enough to earn decent minutes at PG going forward.

If he could ever become somewhat of a PG, how great would that be for us defensively and for insurance purposes? Can we play with him in the playoffs at PG and go heavy ISO being that the playoffs are grind-it-out half court sets anyways? If he can do this in the playoffs and if JJ comes back healthy, we are still a pretty deep team and great defensively.

Thoughts?

I know but Spreewell was able to move over to PG at points when needed. And, like the Bulls and Lakers never really had a true 2 guard, can he fit that hybrid and have a good enough handle? That can really help us.

I think you are right about fitting into the position when we need it. Like when baron needs a rest or something to that effect. Although I still think shumpert should play more of the 2 guard

This year is lost as far as I am concerned, with Lin and Amar'e out. Why would we stunt his development by making him play a position he isn't particularly good at in the first place?

The guy is a 2 and he's going to be a pretty damn good 2. Just ride with him at where he's good at and who knows. Maybe we can still make it to the playoffs like that.

Shump is a 2 that can play the point for small stretches if needed. Right now you play him at shooting guard until Baron goes down. Even then you have to play Bibby and Toney at PG before Shump....the ball need to be going to his hands not away.

It's always better to let the player develop his game in his strong position than to try to develop the player while teaching a new position.

We should let Shump be Shump. The Shumpdawg!

We need to prevent Baron going down. Baron's minutes should be limited to 20-25 minutes. Shumpert and Douglas should play point the rest of the time.

Baron has to play as much as possible. The Knicks can't afford to play him 20-25 with the thought to rest him. He needs to become the starter he thinks he is. If he doesn't the Knicks could miss the playoffs....we already know how horrible Tony, Bibby and Shump is at point guard...Baron is horrible too but he's better than the rest of them.

The Rookie Wall

.... over the next few weeks (Shumpert) will most likely find himself tethered in stretches to the likes of Brandon Jennings, John Wall, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Deron Williams and Chris Paul.

That is a difficult defensive menu for any player, specially a rookie.

Such a stretch would be rough for any rookie, especially one enduring a compressed season unlike anything Shumpert experienced during his three years at Georgia Tech. But if Shumpert can keep up his recent dynamic play – efficient shooting coupled with an increasingly hounding on-ball defense – even these N.B.A. stars might find out the hard way that No. 21 is no longer just any rookie. - Jim Cavan, NYT

Michael Jordan could not do it alone. Carmelo cannot do it alone. Iman Shumpert holds the key.
