Saw it this weekend, and don't get what the hype about the movie is all about. Read the first book and liked it alot, and half way through the 2nd book. Overall, good translation of what happens in the novels, but just don't see it as the great blockbuster it's touted to be. Light years away from Twilight saga awfulness, but not quite Harry Potter quality level. Anybody see it also? Thoughts?

I saw it. Book was awesome. Movie was very good. Having read the books, there were some things missing. But, was very good. It missed a tiny bit of the epicness of the books. Still a very good movie, though. Was done really well. I think if I only saw the movie and hadn't read the book, I would be in love with the movie. Just my two cents.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

If we're playing that game, then all of these movies copied Lord of the Flies.

I haven't read the books, though Im gonna make it my next books to read. I saw the movie and I loved it, but Im also biased for two reasons. First, I love films and am developing as a filmmaker, and love the themes explored in the movie as well as the direction they gave it. May not seem the epic Harry Potter became, but I think there is a certain level of "down to earth" crude aspect that helps it become a much more relevant message about today's society than simply a new universe with epic adventures you can simply escape to.

I also work in the media, specifically TV, and can definitely relate to the way it is portrayed in the film, however exagerated it may seem to some people. The way most people related to the games is so similar to how certain media people approach reality tv, for example. There is some insensitivity that you can see in the film, though taken to the extreme here.

Can't wait to read the books and see how my opinion changes or sticks. But the movie is definitely good. Comparisons to Harry Potter may come because of the need of the market to fill that void in a somewhat related way everyone waits for the next Michael Jordan. I think it does a good job establishing its direction and its own path to conquering the audience.

Agree that it's filling that niche or void that Harry Potter and Twilight are leaving in the epic book to movie blockbuster world. Guess reading the books first kinda spoiled it for me, because I really really loved the first book (working on the 2 others). But the visions in my head while reading were a little more graphic than I saw on the big screen, and alot of the major details were left out which obviously they had to trim out due to the PG-13 and 2 and half hour limitations. Overall it's not perfect, but I guess if you didn't read the books and just saw the movie, it would seem like a very very well done production(which it is, solid, just missing something to make it great).
