LeBron James tweeted a photo of the entire Miami Heat team in hoodies today, along with the hashtags: #WeAreTrayvonMartin #Hoodies #Stereotyped #WeWantJustice.

good for him

this is unfortuante. I truly hope that this rumored cell phone call to his girlfriend invalidates the FL "stand your ground law"

More like a "shoot first, questions later" law

Yes, very powerful. This is precisely the sort of thing mega-stars should do with their fame...as opposed to overtly political statements.

Good for LeBron taking a stand for something he believes in. MJ famously never touched anything invloving politics or race relations. Not saying tht makes him a bad person, but it's obvious first and foremost in his mind was always his brand. Again, that's a personal choice, but it shows character for LeBron to speak out especially when his character continues to take hits from the Decision and some of the things he says.

I used to live just a few minutes from where it happened. Its like living in another century, and that f'ed up law doesn't help the matter. I'm glad that people are letting the Martin family know that they aren't alone.

For once Lebron was about somebody more than himself, so we applaud that.

Such a strange and unfortunate case. Hate crime, or over zealous reaction from a neighborhood guy trying to move up the ranks of Law enforcement? Who knows.

The guy, George Zimmerman, is a Latino (Peruvian) guy too. He's also half white on his Military father's side, which could lead to a whole other discussion.

from what I read, this isn't a hate crime. It's some 28 year old idiot who is a wannabe cop. Apparently he phoned stuff into the station regularly. So his fantasy of being a cop likely kept escalating. Maybe his prejudices played into the incident but I don't think he's a card-carrying member of the KKK

The guy's actually Hispanic.

I read up on some the Stand Your Ground Law. Sounds like, at least, he should get nailed with a manslaughter charge.

I do find it interesting that the agressor's family rushed to the media to say that "he's hispanic" as a defense against racism. Whites aren't the only racists

As for the manslaughter charges, I would be interested to hear more

I was going to say pretty much the same thing. BRAVO Miami.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

The "Self Defense" Law is ridiculous especially when you consider that Trayvon Martin was not armed, excpet for a bag of skittles. The girlfriend was on the phone with him and according to her, Martin was running from the guy so, Zimmerman obviously chased him down. Also, its been a reported that a Neighbor heard Martin screaming for help befofe he was shot. Its crazy that this guy is not behind bars yet.

what's bullchit is that with such a law you ALWAYS have an out. "Uh, officer, he was confrontational and he, uh, jammed his hand in his pocket real fast and withdrew. It was, uh, self defense."

If this wannabe cop can't be prosecuted, the lawmakers themselves should be prosecuted.

I find it shocking that more athletes don't use their fame and access to the public to speak their minds. Some anti Monsanto (GMO plants) temp tattoos or whatever would be nice. I mean big corporations own the information we see and if there is a chance to get it back, we should.

Bravo Lebron and Heat. Would like to see it go bigger and in other areas. Can you imagine in live interviews players bringing up real issues??? Just hope they would pick them well...

This is true. You see this is many south and central American countries. That said, I really don't know enough to make an informed opinion on this dude's mental makeup. Unfortunately, the cops did such a lackluster job with the initial investigation that all we are left with is bits of information and assumptions based on psuedo psychological, armchair analysis. All of the authorities involved with this case need to be taken to task.

Its not crazy, its sad as this case follows the same qualities of other horrendous crimes where the aggressor has an irrational and violent reaction against an unarmed and misjudged person who happens to not be white and as soon as the police shows up they side with the aggressor and change their regular protocol in such situations so that the aggressor is relieved of guilt and responsibility.

Really, how many times have we seen something like this happen? And we are supposed to believe we are safe and we can trust authorities and law enforcers? We are in freaking 2012 and this still happens in front of everybody and it is allowed to continue to happen. Im sorry if this offends anybody but things like this really get under my skin and make me not only wonder the kind of world we live in today, but how little progress we seem to be doing as a society when things like this keep happening and instead of giving the right punishment to the responsible people, we protect them and prolong the sickness in society.
