Sources say that all Dolan has to do is ask

http://www.theknicksblog.com/2012/03/15/source-phil-has-definite-interest-in-knicks-job/

A well-connected league source told me yesterday that Phil Jackson has “definite interest” in the Knicks coaching job but that it’s “too late in the season” for him to consider coaching this year.

There is also word that Jackson is preparing to have surgery.

I’ve been asked countless times why would Jackson come to New York and put his legacy on the line and deal with owner Jim Dolan. I can’t say that that he will because I don’t know but there is league-wide chatter that Jackson has his sites on finishing his career in New York where he started as a player.

James Dolan has certainly struggled choosing the right mix with the Knicks and had caught a lot of flack for leaving Glen Sather be the entire decade while running the Rangers. Dolan respects Sather’s past championship acumen, which is exactly what Jackson would bring the the table.

Ken Berger of CBS had this important note in January as it related to the situation:

“The feeling is, all Dolan would have to do is ask, and Phil would say yes,” a person connected to the former Lakers coach told me this week.

My intel is telling me the same thing, especially if the Nets land Dwight Howard and steal the spotlight, something Dolan knows can’t happen when the team moves to Brooklyn.

Not gonna happen. Phil would want a great deal of power over some decision making and he's got an ego much larger than those 13 rings he's got. Dolan wants puppets and guys he can control.
-- the preceding post was brought to you by the letter K and the number 22.

He has 10 rings (hopefully he will have 13 in 4 years ) and the article had an interesting correlation to Sather.

Slightly better than the "source" that claimed Jackson was likely fascinated by the position.

one source close to the situation told ESPN.com on Wednesday that Jackson would likely be "fascinated" by the prospect of "how the Knicks' (current) personnel would fit in his system."

Everyone is a "source."

"Sources" mean nothing.

Put a quote on it and let someone sign it.

Scott Layden, Larry Brown, MDA... Guys enter the organization with very good reputations and always come out worse than they came in. Phil can't be dumb enough to want a part of this.

This is single reason why, the NY Knicks got excellent chance if they "ask" Phil Jackson to be next new Knick coach
give him little power, few yrs & contract demands. One vital thing is Phil's health being right for return to coaching

Riley's was certainly worse, partly for how he left (via fax) and partly because he became known as a sort of bad boy enforcer type coach after winning 4 rings with the showtime lakers.

We all love him and appreciate what he did here. 2-18 (TD like) away from a ring.

He left like a douche so we were pissed but he was idolized here. Also, he was able to change and adapt from the ShowTime Lakers to a grinding / mean slow-the-game-down team.

Riley was not here under Big Jimmy Dolan. Important note.

I could have been clearer but I was referring solely to the Dolan era.

Yes. With the 16th and 13th picks of the 1st round in 1984 and 1985 he draft John Stockton and Karl Malone.

Phil is a Triangle guy and I don't know if this roster is setup well for that style. It seems like a real stretch. Also Phil seems to really be breaking down. I wonder if he'll have the good health and energy to deal with this job. It takes years off your life.
