Anthony not happy with D'Antoni

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/source_melo_mike_on_rocks_ho7LF1MWCeOPZS7cjV1kJO#ixzz1p15xqVNM

As the NBA trade deadline approaches Thursday, the relationship between Mike D’Antoni and Carmelo Anthony appears to be deteriorating.

There are several indications the alliance is getting worse, not better, and it seems inconceivable both will be back with the Knicks next season.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Anthony is disgruntled and he may have given off those signs when he didn’t join a team huddle during a third-quarter timeout. (Anthony claimed that occurs often).

Anything bold happening at the trade deadline would seem unlikely. D’Antoni is more likely to get fired than Anthony get traded after the Knicks dropped their sixth straight game, 104-99, to the Bulls.

Anthony, who was benched the entire fourth quarter Sunday and didn’t seem happy about it afterward, finished with 21 points but took 21 shots to get there.

The Knicks are 2-8 (25% win pct) since Anthony returned from injury and D’Antoni continues to stress running the club through Jeremy Lin and not Anthony because that’s what spawned the 8-1 "Linning" streak (89% win pct) and turned the Knicks into a global story.

D’Antoni heard brief “Fire D’Antoni’’ chants Sunday. He has admitted the team’s psyche and spirit has reached a low point just weeks from the Knicks being on top of the sports world. The D’Antoni-Anthony-Lin troika is not working.

D’Antoni realizes his future is tied to the hip of Lin and strenuously defended Lin on Sunday and again last night before the game.

“I’m not real concerned,’’ said D’Antoni of Lin. “If we get everything straight and make everything easier for him. We’re making it hard for him now.”

D’Antoni rarely has been passionate about Melo and that’s probably why Anthony is probably longing for George Karl right now. In fact, a person connected to Anthony said he was once told after the Boston playoff sweep last spring that D’Antoni likely would not return as coach.

Whether D’Antoni hasn’t figured out how to coach Anthony or Anthony hasn’t figured out D’Antoni’s system is a moot point.

If they don’t start get on the same page quickly, the D’Antoni-Anthony marriage will be over soon. D’Antoni is probably a long shot to stay unless owner James Dolan is adamant about seeing what assets he can get for Anthony, whose stock has plummeted because of his contract and poor season.

If the Knicks want to build around Lin and D’Antoni’s speedball offense and Tyson Chandler’s defense, then Anthony could be sacrificed. Asking interim GM Glen Grunwald to put together a package by Thursday appears out of reach.

Lin can be re-signed for the Knicks $5 million mid-level exception and they can match any offer. Much to Lin’s chagrin, D’Antoni probably is the one who won’t be offered a contract extension, even though Linsanity never happened unless the former undrafted point guard wasn’t running the D’Antoni’s attack that gives the point guard all the freedom and decision-making.

seeing Berman trolling for this angle in the Melo post-game interview last night was pathetic. he kept trying to bait melo and melo was being a good soldier and not saying anything off script.

it's obvious that Melo and MDA don't see eye to eye - I said as much about 6 weeks ago and was blasted for being a hater.

I am starting to really, really believe the Knicks are cursed. What else can explain how things look like they are coming together after years of Isiah, Laydum, etc., then wham....clusterfuk.

On a side note, I am so glad that League pass didn't drop the price at the start of the season. I refused to pay full price for 66games and now, I'm sure as hell glad I'm not paying for this TRASH.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

We are not cursed, we just keep making the same mistake over and over again and management, GM's and fans never learn from it. We hire a coach. We get seduced by the names of "stars". We gut the team or overpay to bring in these "stars" without concern for fit. We hand the keys to the franchise over to these "stars". We strip the coach of all power and destroy his reputation in the process. We fire the coach. Fans feel great that we finally GOT THAT BUMB. Bring in anyone but him. Shiot doesn't work, AGAIN. Bring in new coach to try to handle the "stars". We destory that coach's rep by continually giving power to "star" that has never won. Then gut team......

Rinse, lather, repeat

It's sad but true. Dolan made sure that the trend would continue when he undermined Donnie. He might have finally won like Steinbrenner when he left the Yanks alone, but Dolan couldn't resist.

Having MDA coach as a lame duck was a huge mistake. That has always been a recipe for disaster. Especially when you bring in the high priced star. Also the owner has to show that he's behind the coach and GM so that players fall in line. Dolan has done neither. No support for Glen or MDA. Dolan our fearless leader, strikes again.

wasn't Donnie the guy who traded our 2012 first rd pick...our 2010 lottery pick (Jordan Hill who's a scrub but Donnie selected him so that's on him also) and Jared Jeffries for T-Mac? Sorry, just needed to depress myself further by reminding myself that we don't have a draft pick this year

No GM is perfect. IF you go thru every pick and move you will find mistakes from even the most successful GM's. In the end tho, I think he was trying to do what the Owner wanted, while still using sound BB team building principles. It's hard trying to please Dolan at the same time doing the right thing BB wise. You can never forget that Dolan has his own agenda and really never just let Walsh do what he wanted without some imput and who knows what Dolan and Isiah talk about!

Maybe we need a 10 game stretch where MDA takes some time off.

See how the team does.

Then we see who goes?

We got samples with and without Melo.

Don't worry. MDA will be in Portland next year.

So a 121 and 167 is not a big enough sample size for MDA?

Never had a team that was not torn up so he was not able to settle in and teach a consistent roster his system.
