Well, Linsanity was cruising well, then Amar'e came back, I saw the game changed a bit, Amar'e 's heart was not in the game and I totally can't blame him since he had such tragic event. Then Melo came back, we started to constantly lose more games, then Baron came back, took pressure off Lin, but we still keep losing. Now we have 5 losing streaks.. Tyson and Larry and Iman lost their edge and the 'I'm having fun' look on their face since all this happened. I don't know man, but would keeping the format and lineup during the winning streak would continue to give us winning streak? I mean yeah, we'll be risking Amar'e and Melo asking to be traded by deadline, but wouldn't that be good too? We dump all the high salaries and keep the lineup and maybe continue to win? I don't know.. I'm not a coach, but I believe if it ain't broke, don't fix it, or in this case, don't change the lineup and minutes each player had...

JamesLin - anyone can look in the rear view mirror and second guess how to handle the return of Stoudemire and Carmelo. Staying with the Linsanity Lineup would have required D'Antoni to have balls of Titanium.

Pure, 100 percent pure, Titanium.

No son, you evidently are not a coach because 200M is a lot of chedda to have riding the pine after the National Anthem, and the Dolan family does not sign those supersized payroll checks for no substitutes.

Moving forward, it will take the entire month of March for this crew to get acquainted and stop throwing the ball into the second row. There will be blood and the thrill is gone. Dig this, it would have been gone anyway. Linsanity was fun while it lasted. Everyone knows you don't spit on Deron Williams' cape, you don't mess with the Celtics IN Boston and the Spurs have the indefatigable heart of a champion.

Next up. Derrick Rose in Chicago. Good luck with that.

If March is a replay of January, you start scouring the earth for a 6'9-6-10 clone of Terry (not Pat) Cummings.

Watching Amar'e Stoudemire having his layups rejected like food stamps is too painful for words.

It's fun to say Linsanity would've continued, but I point out the New Orleans Game(Team is dead last in the West) to say it wouldn't. This was before Carmelo could even show up to "suck the life out of the Knicks". That game pointed out the blueprint to stop Linsanity, which the rest of the Knicks opponents seem to put as a top priority in their scouting reports. Trap the Pick and Roll, bang Lin around, and you stop the Knicks offense. I put more stock in opponents knowing Lin's weaknesses and tendencies, then the simple addition of Melo and Stoudemire mucking things up. And People harping about Melo and Stoudemire's lack of Defense(they do suck on D btw), Lin is arguably the worst defender on the Knicks. It's bad enough they have to take Shumpert off his man constantly to guard Lin's, to make up for his defensive deficiencies. I'm not harping on Lin, because I love his offensive game(minus the turnovers), but it's like people always overlook this aspect of his game. Anyways, with all that practice time after the All Star Break, you have to pin all this on the coach. Knicks had Melo and Stat for both Cleveland and Atlanta wins post Linsanity, so I don't get all this crap about you can't win with those guys. You know teams are gearing up to trap and push Lin around, and you still haven't made adjustments 5 losses in a row...This is all on coach.

I would have to disagree with the Lin defense. Here is my take on Lin's defense.

1. Very Good on ball defender when in an island. He keeps in front of his man and hands are very active. Causes steals or jump balls.
2. Very bad guarding opponents when being ran through screens. Not sure if this is coach instructed but he keeps going under screens now. He used to fight through screens but was getting banged up. Coaches might have told him just go under screens to save his body from getting dinged a little.
3. Very good help defender in that he is a willing to double team and recognizes which player to cover when the offensive player swings the ball.
4. Very bad help defender in that while he has great hands and nose for the ball he does not understand his point-of-no-return. Meaning on a double you should only double if you can get back to your own man no problem. He gets burned a lot on this.

He needs work on certain aspects of his defense but saying he is the worst defender is just false.

ChuckBuck - excellent points all. After all the gnashing of teeth over Carmelo, one must look at the entire picture and admit how sudden the lightning bolt of Linsanity was. A bright flash that shocked everyone, including Lin himself.

The multiple adjustments needed when the Terrible Twins, Josh Harrellson, Baron Davis and JR Smith - who all showed up at once - were simply too complicated to be solved during the All Star break.

March should not come as a surprise. Yes, damn that Paul Pierce for hitting that last shot... but whaddyagunnado?

On coaching - Walt Frazier, simply, said it best - "when a man (Carmelo) is hot, you don't sit him down."

I agree on all 4 points. Most NBA guards can get by the PG that are guarding them. If you watch most of the recent Knick games, when Lin gets by the opposition there is always help. When a guy gets by Lin, Amare waves his bull fighting cape. Point 4 is where he is the weakest IMHO. He gets caught in the point of no return often and guys end up wide open for jumpers...which of course go in against the Knicks. Did you ever notice that all the statistically bad 3 point teams hit ridiculous 3 pointers against the Knicks. LOL!

I'm rooting for Lin just as much as the next Knick fan, but facts are facts, he's been getting lit-up by opposing guards lately. Take a look at 4 of the last 5 guards we've faced:

Rondo 18 pts, 20 ast, 17 rebs (legendary numbers)
Parker 32pts, 6 ast
Jennings 25 pts, 10 ast
Lou Williams 28 pts 2 ast

Not to mention Deron Williams going off on us and Calderon was playing so well Lin had to be switched off of him.

This stuff is pretty frustrating to constantly read and re-read... do people realize how rare it is to get an NBA starter mid season when the opposition has literally no knowledge of that player? has that ever happened? other NBA teams were going to adjust and it is naive and foolish to assume otherwise

Again, Jeremy Lin is part of the solution but Jeremy Lin is not the solution.

Never said worst, said arguably worst defender. The worst defender on Knicks point blank is Amare. Amongst the guards, I'd say between Lin and Bibby. On the ball, he is terrible, not sure what games you been watching. Screen or no screen going over under whatever, being torched by the likes of Jose Calderon and Greivis Vasquez continuosly, forcing D'Antoni to switch to Shumpert is just plain bad defense. I know you loved Linsanity, as did most Knick fans, as did I, but sometimes you have see a player objectively. Lin is a good player, yes, a poor defender, definitely.

Lin is not a very good defender. He gambles way too often for my liking. If there was a stat like "easy buckets allowed per game" he'd be among teh bottom. If there was a ratio like "easy buckets allowed:great on ball defense per possession" he'd be among the bottom.

In fairness, part of that is because there is absolutely no help defense whatsoever. But you would think a player as heady as Lin would realize this and not gamble all the time and especially in the post.

What the hell happened to the no layup rule?

You are making sense - thats not what people want. They want to rant that when they won the 8-1 championship it was impossible to shut that all star team down. And if now, they would go back to that line up, we would of course based on the roster and previous history, go 8-1 again? Right?

HugeKnick4 - according to your own promise, you were done if the Knicks lost yesterday. Sup?

The Sixers have something the Knicks lack. Cohesion. They have been together longer and play like it. Their team defense is one of the best in the league. Hands down. They contest every pass and every shot. There is no such thing as a passing lane.

Few are willing to admit that yesterday provided prime evidence of one reason why Carmelo is valuable. Without his improvisation on offense, the first half is a blowout. Like many players raised on the playground, Anthony must learn to manage his body language when things don't go his way. He resorts to individualism as an answer to most problems, when it should be the other way around. Compared to the staggering drop in Amar'e Stoudemire's ability to defend or block a shot, Carmelo's outward appearances are minor.

It's THE DEFENSE!

Landry Fields was the go-to guy yesterday (6-9) and we missed him. Lin was a John Starks-like 5-18 from the field. 5-18 is not good.

The Knicks must find the open man, preferably the hot hand, and keep going to him.

one more thing, the Sixers are good.

Has anybody seen Steve Novak?

I think we all agree that he is far from a Defensive Stopper...but in the Parker game specifically, Parker was toasting the entire Knick team, including Shumpert. I guess you missed Lin's D on Jennings when he forced him to throw an airball during a crucial time in the game. Remember...when Amara and Melo were boxing out the same guy! LOL!

He was hot in the 1st quarter(5-7 shooting torching Iguodala), and all the sudden he sits him. All the time, it seems we're second guessing MDA moves...if we're second guessing MDA every game, then it must be bad coaching right?

Its like they are both trying to sabatoge the other. This is no good. Made absolutely zero sense. Why would MDA not want him to get on track.

Nixluva writes it other threads how he needed rest after playing the WHOLE 1st QUARTER!!! Where have you gone Wilt Chamberlain who used to play 48 minutes a game? That is preposterous!! Help the guy out coach! Or, is that not in your best interest? Very peculiar ... and it smells really bad.

I know we've had countless debates on the issues related to offense during the Linsanity days and the post-return debacle. OK, maybe it's because other teams have become wiser about how to trap Lin, maybe it's because we have incompatible players. There's going to be a lot of debate about that still. And we still do get to pile a lot of shots in -- see the Bucks game.

But the one glaring thing for me has really been defense. We are a worse team today in terms of defense from February. Did teams suddenly figure our defense out in the same way that they figured out Lin's attack? Or is it simply the fact that we are playing worse defense?

I think it's the latter. Opposing guards and SGs are seeing lanes wide open, therefore they can go full speed against Lin, Fields, Baron, JR or whoever is guarding at the perimeter.

We've been hurt by the injuries to JJ and Chandler and the inability of Amare to step up, and the slow return of Jorts. And I think Amare is worse than Melo, so that's why I lay this more on him (and he is the one supposed to be patroling the interior).

That for me has been the real problem of post-Linsanity.

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
