anybody that would hold his old team and all his teammates (the nuggets) hostage so he can get a little more money on his new contract is a dick. we're not talking about a boatload more cash. dude still could have signed a max contract and made more money than wade or lebron (both better players than melo).

furthermore, this dickhead forced his new team (the knicks) to give up a bunch of picks and young assets in a trade for him when he could have signed as a free agent. again, just so he could get his.

plain and simple: he's not a team first dude. it's beginning to manifest itself on the court. the good team vibes we once had are replaced with terrible body language and a general malaise on the court.

and don't even get me started on when he sucker punched mardy collins and then ran backwards for the entire court instead of sticking around and fighting like a man.

guy gave me a bad vibe from the start. sorta like when marbury dogged charlie ward and chris childs in the press saying: "knicks won't ever win a title with them at point." well, they barely sniffed the playoffs with starbury.

a fitting sequel to the marbury era.

welcome to starmelo's world.

Wade, LeBron, and Kobe are three of the biggest dicks in the history of being a dick. I would have welcomed either on the Knicks. Same goes for MJ

I also enjoyed Oakley's and Mason's tenures here

Landry Fields is a stand up guy and a significant percentage of this forum wants him out of the rotation

I guess my point is that while its nice to have your best players be good people, it isn't a requisite to win

agreed. nice guy is not requisite. but team player is. wade and lebron might be dicks, but they took LESS money for the TEAM.

my concern is that the dude is not a team player.

Nobody put a gun to the knicks head and made them do the trade.

No way Melo goes into a strike summer with no health insurance and gets his surgeries done witout a contract. He could get an infection and be out for a long time and with no contract it would be stupid. Thats not my concern but the Nets were all but willing to take him and Dolan panicked.

You do stupid things when you panic.

The Russian forced Little Jimmie to over pay. Nets got Jimmy to screw himself. Denver made out by creating a Market for melo. Knuggs and Knets freaking toyed with Jimmie.

If Dwight makes his way to Nets without a trade they have their picks, Dwight, Deron, either BroPez or Humphries (they can trade BroPez or let Hump walk) and a host of good role players to keep or use as trade bait.

Then Little Jimmie can panic.

Cuz the first one to win a chip will own the City. Many knick fans are don't go back to the 70's. Many grew up with them sucking and are open to bandwagon jumping.

Nets are insignificant but Im telling you guys, you put a good team in Brooklyn and watch little JImmy squirm.

ANd when Little Jimmy Squirs, he calls Isiah.....and when he calls Isiah.......Bad things happen.

Did Melo even know 1 1/2 years ago (when he started making constant trade demands) that he was going to need surgery in the 2011 off-season? Did he know it by the trade deadline last year?

There seems to be a strong dislike for Melo on the board where they look for faults and emphasis it. Melo is important to the Knicks he is a must have player. Put it this way you have a better chance to beating Miami and Chicago with him than without him. I really don't understand being a Knicks fans we should be rooting for Melo to succeed instead there are people here trying to bury him. It leads me to question ones loyalty to the team. Legitimate criticism, who are you to give legitimTe criticism last night he went 12-24 shot 50% and no body played defense. Knicks fans can do more harm than good, the knicks are a work in progress why can't fans accept that. The real reason the Knicks haven't had a championship in 40 odd years is because we look to destroy players rather than build them up and when a player is built up the next step from there is to tear them down. Knicks fan need to chillax goog thing are happening right now you have to watch with blinders on your going to see a lot of crappy basketball on the way to being a real good team.

Knicks knew it and the surgeries were minor. But like I said, would you want to go into a strike, get surgery and rehab on your own without a contract?

Melo is like that old 2nd generation iPod. The fat one that is as heavy as a brick. That iPod is useless because it shuts down halfway into the year.

I like to think of myself as someone who, after having already earned dozens of millions of dollars, would put winning a championship ahead of making more money and would be fine even just taking an MLE deal if I were in a great situation. Who knows what would really happen though?

Also, are you sure the contract ends at the end of the regular season and Melo would have been without health insurance? I find it unlikely that the players association would allow a scenario where all free agents go into the off-season without health insurance.

Look, im sure the players made the premiums and had the insurance but its the risk of injury with no contract and facing a lockout that made Melo do what he did. It was a smart business decision on his part and I can't blame him. Knicks only enabled him that much further.

You conveniently left off the part where he will be given money up front. Different league NBA doesn't allow for restructuring.

Actually the new NBA CBA does allow for restructuring. And it is a different league with different rules and different concerns. You're right in that regard. That said, I am still not sold that Melo is a team player. That's my main concern here. His actions indicate that his first, second and third priority is himself. That's ok in boxing, golf and tennis, but in bball -- you need a team to win.

I'm a big Giants fan, and I'm a big Eli fan. I'm happy he restructured because the team is in a very tough cap spot right now and will have to wave goodbye to some key players.

But, I never understood why this is seen as being a good guy or a team player thing:

The franchise quarterback will still get all of the $10.75 million with $9 million of it being paid up front and guaranteed, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

He isn't taking less money. He's just agreeing to get most of it up front. That's awesome. I want that to happen at my office. I want to restructure my compensation agreement so I get 83.7 percent of my salary at the start of my company's fiscal year. I can work with that

Better yet, I'd like all my retirement benefits now, too. Lump sum.

Lol. Look, it's war now. I feel like this dude, who I didn't like in the first place, has already ruined my team twice. Once when we were gutted to acquire him. And again when his style of play stifled a fun to watch ball movement based offense.

I was originally against trading for him. But when we got him I accepted it and even supported him. I argued in his favor when he did nothing to earn the benefit of the doubt other than don the knicks uni. It's over for me. It's been a year with this guy. He has failed to impress in any way.
