I love Fields but he seems to regress against top teams and doesnt bring the intensity needed for the starting 5. I think we need to cut a player out of the top 10 and get the rotation down to 9 for continuity. We are having tremendous spacing problems with unit 1 and unless Carmelo can hit that 14+ footer--were stuck in mud against good teams. Right now teams are just sagging into the lane--running two guys at Lin and Carmelo Amare and Chandler are all bunched up. Solution--Anthony needs to play what he is paid to play for--he has to step up and play within the team game--no isolation. Shumpert brings A game defense and intensity--we need that off the bat and Im willing to let him go 38 minutes.

Second unit---I dont think we win playing 10 guys--we need to cut it to 9.

only reason to play 10 guys is heavy schedule. And it will come in handy.

How many times does Fields drive and jump to pass right into traffic or to other team? It's getting old.

I think the rotation is ok just the minutes distributed is looking horrible right now. Also the second unit does not run hardly any offense. I barely see any screens it is just dribblr dribble chuck or maybe dribble dribble dribble I'm in trouble find Novack. Novack has been the real savior. His shooting spurts is what has kept the Knicks in every game he has played.

I watched Baron and what he's doing is watching the floor for one of his teammates to get open. He's keeping his dribble and allowing Novak to run his curl and other guys trying to move into scoring position. It's not just wild west BB. I'd like to see them swing the ball, but I do recognize what they're doing in the 2nd unit. I think it would help to swing the ball and move a bit more tho.

Still guys have to hit shots!!! We can't shoot right now. Baron, JR, Fields, Shump, Melo... no one is shooting the ball worth a darn.

Coach needs to make some tuff choices.

I think JJ2, Jorts and Novack should be the front court off the bench. I also think there needs to be choice of who you play game to game between Fields, JR and Baron. I think those guys minutes are killing the team.

My Line UP:
TC/Jorts
Amare/JJ2
Melo/Novack
Shump/Fields or JR
Lin/JR or Baron depending on the situation

I see that too but how many one on one shots do Smith and Shumpert take without passing the ball? I can leave with ot because Shumpert plays great D but the second unit waste so many possessions.

Do you think MDA wants to keep him as a spark of the bench and he might be also worried about his health long term?

could be. Could be that Shump is playing well BECAUSE he is coming off bench and only logging limited minutes.

I think Shump is finally getting healthy again, notice no knee brace any more. Fields is playing like caca, and perhaps if you remove him completely from lineup he goes into tank. OR maybe if Melo/Amare start to play like they should, teams focus on them and Fields can play his normal off-the-ball, movement game.

Who knows.

Shumps Defense is looking scarier and scarier.

I actually think that Fields did not do as bad tonight. 4 pts on 2-5? Eh. I liked the 10 rebounds though and he was running pretty well.

This team has a really strange makeup. Amare and Melo both need the ball on the perimeter, no deep post presense and a starting 2 guard who can rebound but can't score.

But if fields moves to the bench he can play the 3 not the 2 spot anymore

He seems like a poor man's Stephon Marbury.
He's good enough to be used for 14 mpg as a backup though.

If the playoffs started today, I'd make JR the odd man out and Fields the backup SG.

We need the 10 or 11 man rotation with the schedule. I want us to be semi ok for the playoffs. Jorts is back and looked good considering the layoff.

The problem as others have seen is there is no spacing, teams are packing it inside. Our starting SG can't shoot. Our starting SF can't shoot and is having trouble finishing and playing defense. Lin is playing ok, but when teams pack it in and he keeps getting doubled on the outside (and Melo isn't hitting that outside shot), penetrating is very difficult and he can't carry the team and shouldn't have to. It is sad to watch what we have become since MElo is back. Clearly it's no coincidence that when Melo was out with his injury we were playing much much better. The spacing was there for Lin to drive as our shooters were hitting shots a bit better, much better than Melo, the guy is playing absolutely terrible. Luckily Stat is coming on but he needs a little space to shoot, Melo doesn't, we need Melo to pick it up, I mean it's been a year of no team ball almost, and when he does play team ball and get better looks he can't hit the easier shots. Yeah, when he is doubled at the end of games he can hit hard shots as he is used to that. I just think he is so out of his element in a team game that he is totally thrown out his ISO rhythm.

I would love to see Shump start. He needs to learn to finish better, man he is terrible at times there, but with Melo and STat in the starting lineup it is key to have our top perimeter defender in the game. Having Fields start is hurting us in that way.

I think you are right about Melo being out of his element in a team-oriented offense. He can get to the rim at will, which is a great skill, but I'm surprised by how much he's struggling to finish. I thought it was injury-related but he was healthy enough to play in the all-star game.

Yeah because Melo never played on a team-oriented offense in Denver

In favor of moving Shumpert to starting 2G--and need to cut rotation to 9
