Can he be a Bobby Jackson type? 30ish minutes a game where he's the backup PG but ends up finishing most games playing off the ball?

As you watch him round into shape and get his rythm back your reminded this guy was a star and still has a lot of gas in the tank.

I think we all figure and assume Lin is the long term starter. Can we keep Diddy in a reserve role? Would he stick with that?

I think he would stick in that role but as usual I think it's going to come down to how much $$$ he wants and what the Knicks are willing to pay.

totally disagree... he has a strong finish here he will get offers to be a starter, and for good teams as well.

If Davis stays healthy then like Fishmike said, he will get offers to start on decent teams and can probably get more money than we can offer him. So it all boils down to whether he wants to contend for a title here for the rest of his career or move on. Miami, L.A., and Dallas would love to sign, so he knows he controls his own destiny in that regard. I hope he is getting some NY endorsement deals that convince him that staying here will work out for him financially.

Baron loves Broadway.

His ambition for the stage is well documented in his work off the court.

He carries a Screen Actors Guild card.

You do the math.

i believe there'll be a starting role in LA with the Lakers, if he wants it.

Guess it depends on his back and/or the market for him. It would be hard if another team threw him $30 million or something. But, then again, he's old so maybe another team only offers something like a one year $10 million deal. But as we've seen with guys like Grant Hill, they prefer to stay a multi-year deal at lower pay than a one year high value contract.

I guess, in short, if he likes it here and the team is able to pony up for a 3 or 4 year deal, get him on the court for 25-30 minutes, and feature him as the sixth man, I see no reason why he wouldn't want to stay. This might be his best shot to stay healthy, play his best style of basketball (Warriors/Mavs 2007), and win a chip.

I don't know jack about the cap though. What will be interesting if it comes down to Fields or Davis. Or if the Knicks are allowed to go over the cap to sign him

if the KNicks dont need any of the their MLE to sign Lin, I would give Baron a big extension as I could, that would include a 4 year MLE type deal. I think he's really a key piece. You have the great frontcourt guys locked up, you need to lock up Lin and Baron.

I hope so Fish. When we had the top 5 list of PGs we wanted to see on the Knicks next year I had Baron at #1. Ahead of Felton & 40yro Nash & Kidd and scrubs like Sessions. This was before Linsanity happened. Davis is only 32 and if he can keep his minutes to under 30 the back might not be an issue. Doesn't seem like a recurring back problem. Like with Amare it just needed rest. A lot of people under-estimated Baron's play making abilities and for whatever reason seemed to only remember the young Baron of the Charlotte Hornets. When in reality all these years later he has matured and is now well liked by his coaches and teammates.

yea, as baron got older, he seemed to play a more poised game. I think he has gas in the tank left.. just not at heavy minutes every night... some team is going to offer him more money... for sure..

this is from the post, quoting Baron davis

“For a good part of my career, I wasn’t having fun and I didn’t really enjoy the game and I wanted to enjoy the game again,” Davis said. “I figured if I played in this system that’s fit for my talents then I’ll be able to do that.”
Davis, who turns 33 in April, said he’s not at full strength yet. He also said he can’t really play more than 15 minutes at the moment.
“That was enough,” he said. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

I would love to see Steve Nash on the Knicks next year but I have a feeling Baron will sign for another year at minimum salary. Not sure what team would sign him to a multi year deal above the vet max.

I too, would love Nash to come here and win a championship but that's getting ahead of myself

I said this in the game thread, I love BDiddy and I will enjoy this ride he will take us on, but you still have to take 40 year old Nash to 32 year old BDiddy.

Nash is a great fit for this team next year and BDiddy has a good chance of pricing himself out of this team.

I'm just going to enjoy Baron's game this year.

so would I, but I think nash is still physically able to start and be effective, I wonder if he wants a backup role..
