We've seen this starting unit play together long enough and come out flat every game. Maybe a small change up like starting Shump to team up with Tyson for defense makes all the difference. Without doing something drastic like benching $100m Amare for $200,000 Jorts. Also Shump will help Lin bring the ball up when he is pressured like in the Heat game and he shoots 86% from the line as opposed to Fields 60%

One of JR and Shumpert needs to start. Fields brings nothing to the table and his defense against SGs sucks.

Shump does look good in his uniform.

Tonight was the first time this season he played without knee braces.

I wouldn't mind if Shump slides in with the starters, he plays starter minutes in the 4th anyways.

Shumpert impressed me tonight. He attacked the basket and made sure to get the ball in the hole, even connecting on a few thunderous slams. If he can continue to penetrate off of Lin traps and finish at the basket, he is no longer a liability on offense.

yea I've never been a fan of the idea that we need his defense and energy off the bench. Doesn't make sense when most games are lost cos the starting unit comes out flat defensively every game. Why not just step on the opponents throat in the 1st 6mins of the game!

This starting lineup hasn't played that much together to be truthful. Knicks fans are just impatient!!! We just got everyone back! You have to allow time for this team to keep working on chemistry.

I agree..Think we need JR in the staring line up, somebody who can shoot a 3

I'd leave JR in the 2nd unit. Him and BD have a good rapport already.

That is true but I think the change will increase chemistry because of Shumpert's qualities to defend. He can chase and guard 2s on the ball plus with Lin's lack of ability to stop penetration you need a lock down defender at the two. Neither guys are good shooters but they both can drive to the basket and create for others at times. The big difference is just better defensive play and you need great D when your 4 doesn't show in the lane. Either way Fields, Shumpert, and Smith will avg near the same number of minutes each game. I just rather start the game with quality D.

Jr and Bd Should stay togethr. That is where we exploit other teams second unit or cause them to extend their first units time .

First game with team completely healthy...I would wait a bit to make changes. Fields has been good for a good stretch. Wasn't long ago we were saying shump didn't look good as starter.

because Shump was asked to be the point guard as a rookie with no summer league and training camp cos TD was garbage

you know what, I think I am there with benching Fields. Don't like his play over the last stretch of games. No shooting, not very good defense, jab-step hesitation dribble that goes nowhere and just slows ball movement.

Exactly man he plays like a 6'7 SF which is what he is. He lumbers out there on the perimeter against more conventional SG's it drives me crazy! I totally understood starting him at SG last year when had no one but he was playing out of position than and it is even more evident now because he can't guard, shoot or shoot free throws

I love the Shump/Lin backcourt.

I like Landry, but I feel like he could backup Melo.

Lin / Baron
Shump / JR
Melo / Fields
Amar'e / Novak
Tyson / Jeffries / Jorts

Ocean's Eleven.

I also like Novak as the primary backup SF unless its one of those rare days that he is off then give Fields some backup SF minutes or when Novak is at PF at times

Deep 10/11 man rotation will do wonders for us in this shortened season come playoff time when the other teams are gassed. We hit them with the Boom & Swag! Fields can be the 11th man who gets in a game every once in a while
