chris broussard had an interesting point yesterday; if Dwight Howard decides to wait for free agency in the summer and wants to go to the Nets, they would be a formidable team. The Nets wouldn't have to gut their roster to get Dwight by March 15th—being able to hold on to to their role players like Lopez and Humphries. And Derron Williams would stay put knowing Howard is coming to NJ.

That's next year. We will worry about 2013 after this season is over.

i gotta be honest the nets are playing it smart. i mean howard wants to go there and yet the nets might not have to give anything to get him. the will have a lotter pick and still have guys like lopez, brooks and humpries. man our owner is indeed an idiot wish donnie walsh owned our team

BroPez at the 4 next to Dwight is scarey. I don't know Humphries contract status off hand but off the bench he'd be very strong.

With the Morrow, Brooks and Deron that is some strong perimeter shooting.

IM not counting out the THE RUSSIAN just yet.

NY hoops benefits huge by this.

KNicks need to just focus on themselves and make decisions based on a team plan and not in reaction to the Nets.

I think Getting Melo was more abou him not going to Brooklyn than being a knick.

Knicks have a great opportunity the next few years to do some nice things.

A strong rival is always going to be present, might as well have them in a in the City!

Keep Dolan on his toes. On the other hand Dolan with Anxiety is likley to panic. Not good.

Go Knicks!

That would be a frightening prospect. Let's hope Superdude makes a move in the next couple of weeks. Otherwise, the Nets' chances of putting together a super team improve drastically this summer.

I don't think this is entirely correct. I don't see a way for the Nets to sign Howard and also keep Humphries. He will have a salary hold of at least 8M that pushes their total salary commitment to roughly 47M. Unless DH is signing for 10M a year something has to give.

The whole notion of a player "losing" 30 mil, or "leaving 30mil in the table" is crap. Most of these guys get player opt out after three years. They can then reup with the team for the longer amount.

So in effect they won't lose a season unless the guy blows out a knee. IN that case, he loses a season at the end.

Its a risk, but the upside is one day a player with stones will step up and allow himself to be a free agent and in return goes to team that still has its assets.

At least Orlando can get a player like Humphries as a partial sign and trade.

Dwight going to either NYets or Dallas as free agent will ensure a more competitive environment when he gets there.

Not all franchises will be bestowed the choosen one like the Knicks were so blessed when the savior emerged!

Magic are playing a dangerous game with him. Publically Orlando states they think he might stay.

Its an interesting story developing. Is Dwight playing them so he can walk? By playing hard ball about not resigning with ANYONE he lowers his trade value.

While its against the rules, I would have to say the stakes are pretty high and a face to face, one on one meeting between Dwight and Prokhorov while so very illegal would do wonders for sorting it out. The Russian spells out what he can do for him (Legal or not). $30mil in an swiss bank account to ensure his last year? $100 in gold sitting in a vault in Geneva? But deal is you gotta walk out of orlando clean. No trades. No dumb comments, no TV shows, just walk. Naturally I am only speculating such things. I have no knowledge of such things nor read anything suggesting such a thing.

While the lure of playing with Dirk is good on paper,in two years will be cooked. IN addition, one can assume "Big 3" starphuchs take time to come together and to fill the rest of the roster out. BroPez is not Dirk by any stretch, but in two seasons he could be a hell of a player. Brooks can be better than Terry, Morrow is very very good player and they still have their draft picks. Nyets could be good if they don't have to play a trade with Orlando.

Im gonna say it, I don't hate the Nets and perhaps if the KNicks can't win, better the Nets then BOston? Philly? Miami?

Ali had Frazier!

4 must see games each year!

NJ still has their 1st rounder, correct?

This is a pretty deep draft. If they draft a guy like Barnes and get Howard, they will have a very nice squad. They could even trade Brook for some nice complimentary players or use him to move up in the draft if both DW & DH sign.

And why would either of them want to sign with the Nets. There are much more attractive destinations for both of them. You got the Lakers, Mavs, Portland is pretty much a big man away along with a few other possible suitors. Hell, I could see Deron preferring us to the Nets but, there is no way he could come out and say so at thsi time.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

With Lopez and Humphries, the Nets have possibly the most annoying front court in the league- they just annoy me. Add in Deron Williams, who I have also developed a strong dislike for, and they are my most hated team in the league- only the addition of my most hated player, Kevin Love could aggravate me more!

Nets could either be in a great place by next season (if the add Howard), or be an absolute disaster (no Howard and Deron leaves)- I'm hoping for the latter, I really don't like having 2 teams in one city, it's just wrong.

Another team we might have to deal with in the Eastern Conference: the NETS!?
