The only thing more annoying then the MDA hate on this board has been the Melo hate in the press. Its stupid and idiotic. Lin with 4 assists to Melo last night. Lets be real, with Amare looking more and more like LJ every day this team is built around Lin/Melo/Chandler and thats looking pretty high ceiling to me.

Melo from MDA

“He came up to me and said, ‘Look, just be you,’ ” Anthony said last night. “He just said, ‘Be you. Go out there and play your game.’ I respected that coming from him.”
Why? Because Mr "me first" is trying to hard to fit in. Did anyone else feel like so many of Melo's points came when the Hawks were creeping back in?

Also if anyone DVRd that game last night go back and watch Melo defend. Coming off a groin injury his effort on defense was top flight, as it has been most of the year.

From Lin:

Anthony has “has taken me under his wing.” The point guard phenom added of his star forward, “I think he definitely had a little rust last game. This game he really didn’t seem to have that.”

Melo was asked to do too much earlier this year, but he's been a great pro, has continued to be commited to defense and shares the ball as well. He's done and is doing everything his critics have said (including me) he doesnt.

well said fish.

heard the carmelo quote on wfan this morning on my way to work. anyone who says that melo doesn't back mda is just plain wrong, it's pretty obvious that the WHOLE team backs mda 100% which is awesome to have for the first time in a long time here.

Just Be You

fish.mike - nice job. Carmelo Anthony plays for the joy of playing and only wanted so much to be liked that he was willing to go overboard and defer completely to Lin. Sensing the overreaction, D'Antoni did a wise thing and reminded Carmelo that being Carmelo is cool with him.

Forget the insidious ESPN charts and press headlines... and no one struggled with the trade more than The Answer Man... but guess what... in this wacky universe sometimes the planets align and sh#t balanced out. Gentlemen, we have ourselves a basketball team.

Carmelo Anthony celebrated his one year New York Anniversary yesterday.

Welcome home Melo.

Melo is handling things well and this team looks great. If STAT can find his game, we are a top-5 team in this league. This game tonight is going to be a good indicator of where we are at.

I withhold kudos for now.

We wanted Lin to bring the Good Things over an extended stretch, now we want the same from Melo.

Give me 10 games of Ill-Nasty BALLING, Melo!

Couldn't agree with you more. Melo had 2 uncontested dunks and a layup courtesy of Lins passes. Before Lin, Melo had to set the table, eat and clear the dishes at the same time. Bernard King would have struggled in that role. Now, with the point guard, Melo is back in his comfort zone (whihc is scoring and finishing) and will have the opportunity to get spoon fed some easy hoops from Chef Lin. Cant wait to watch this season unfold.

I do give Melo credit for trying to play team-oriented offense. I think he has bought into the system, which has surprised me. My views of him have evolved a bit. All season, his shots haven't been falling. I don't know if he's still injured. I'm skeptical that he'll ever be worth what we gave up or worth a max contract but I do think he can be a positive contributor.

WTF is Ill-nasty balling?

Carmelo just needs to be himself and keep smiling. The same way Jeremy Lin smiles.

Somebody told JR Smith that the Knicks don't rock bishop cuts. If JR can buy in to the team concept, that is huge. Smith is as gifted with the same skill set as Kobe, (handle just a skootch below, outside range, hops, fearlessness, defense - 4 steals were like whoa) just never as focused.

The prodigal son returns.

I've been very happy with how Anthony has played his first two games back. OK, the first game, he missed a lot of shots, but what was more important for me was that few if any of those shots were forced, or were from isolation plays. He seems happy to take the shots that come his way within the flow--and then, as we saw last night, when our passing offence stalls, he'll oblige with a drive to the basket. This is pretty much exactly how I hoped he'd play (but didn't believe, I must admit).

I haven't see one ill-advised chuck in the Lin era (the one before the 1st half buzzer doesn't count). Every shot was within the flow of the offense, Melo's definitely "bought in" so far.

Agreed; I hope it stays that way. I would like to see him attack the basket *more* though. His biggest strength IMO is his ability to get to the rim.

I love everything about this thread. Officially. Should be sticky candidate the rest of the way.

Is Joe Johnson really this integral to the Hawks being more than a skid row franchise with one attitude player?

It is a lot easier for Melo to adapt his game to a team that is together like this than say Isiah's Knicks

"team" and "Isiah's Knicks" should not be used in the same sentence.

How did Melo "adapt" to Chauncy in Denver? This may be orders of magnitude bigger, but going from AI to CB has to be somewhere on the scale with TD to Lin.
