Would you make this trade? It would be a weird from line. Would probably mean moving Amare to the 6th man and Starting Shump or JR.

Gasol would give them an excellent post presence (though I am not sure if that fits into the "system") and is an excellent PnR guy. It would give us a huge front line and help us with much needed rebounding and defense (Gasol > Amare).

I still think that Melo can fit (eventually) into the system but this would not be a crazy move. Of course, I would love if it could be Amare instead of Melo but LA is not that stupid.

Starphuching! I know - but it so much fun!

Yeah - but you would trade him for Derek Fisher too - so I am not sure if you are the right audience for this question

Not a Fisher fan but he's good enough to fill one of your 12 roster spots.

LOL - Melo and Kobe together in a team? Yeah right. They're going to cancel each other out.

LOL at the line in the article that Amare is like a 6'10" Mike Bibby.

I don't agree. I think that Kobe and Melo would make a great tandem - ala wade/lebron. I think it would put them back in contention.

Melo might not fit into this "system" but he is a great player.

Thanks for putting that image into my head. I'm now picturing a 6'10" Mike Bibby. LOL

Maybe if the Lakers had Jeremy Lin on the team, it could probably work.

If the trade were for a player comparable to Melo, I'd say give it more time. But Gasol is an efficient scorer and outstanding passer. With him at PF, we'd have the same size and length in the front-court on defense that the championship Lakers team had.

If you made that trade, you would probably need to then trade STAT. I doubt either Amare or Gasol could survive on defense at SF, so you would have two guys demanding major minutes at the same position. I think a better trade would be Amare for Gasol. A deal of Amare, T.D., and a future 1st rounder for Gasol seems reasonable. Lakers would probably demand Shumpert. I would include Shumpert if we get to keep our pick. Gasol is perfect for this offense and would work well with Chandler.

My preference, however, is to stand pat. I think this team will shine once everyone gets healthy and they get a few practices under their belt. If shumpert was not hurt, MDA could have put him on Deron and we probably win the game last night and everyone here would be saying we are title contenders. You cannot change from game to game. Give the team time to grow.

Nobody wants Amare. I don't know why people keep putting his name out there for quality players.

I am not calling for a Melo trade - I am a big Melo fan. Vescey put it out there and it is now up for discussion.

Vecsey still writes? And people still read him? I find that even more depressing then his laughable basketball commentary.

I find him entertaining - even though its full of conjecture.

I sure would love to have Pau Gasol in Knicks but Lakers are going to waste him on Michael Beasley. What if they threw in Metta World Peace as well? we could trade Metta World Peace off for a hot dog stand.

Amare can be the backup PF and C. That would give him about 30 min a game. If he keeps sucking, though, he loses the backup minutes to Jeffries.

I asked my dad what he thought of the game, he said they look different with Carmelo.

I've enjoyed reading your posts. However, you make a post like this and you're asking to be ridiculed.

Hahahahaha, yea.

I meant to get accross that even a casual fan notices the team plays a different type of hoops with Melo out there.
