PG-Lin/Shump
SG-Smith/Fields
SF-Melo/Novak
PF-Amare/JJ2
C-Tyson/Jorts

After Baron returns:
PG-Lin/Davis
SG-Smith/Shump/Fields
SF-Melo/Novak/Fields
PF-Amare/JJ2/Novak
C-Tyson/Jorts/JJ3

Doesn't look like Fields will ever hit the open 3 or come close to the rim for that matter. Maybe he can actually work on his form THIS offseason cos he clearly didnt last

I remember hearing about him working relentlessly on his outside J during the lockout. So much for that. From Game 1 that jumpshot was broken.

For the record, I don't really care whether or not JR starts as long as he gets 30 minutes a night and closes out close games. If he comes off the bench, he can be the go-to guy for our already weak bench unit.

I just don't want to see Shumpert's minutes cut because of what he brings defensively. Rather cut Fields minutes. Fields got killed tonight he is not quick enough to keep up with most SGs

I agree, Shumpert definitely needs the minutes. Hopefully with a full training camp and preseason he will come back with a more polished offense, doing an amazing job on D for a rook.

He will make a hell of a lockdown defender in the playoffs. If not this season then in the future.

At this point it isn't definite that Davis will ever be here, but our minutes should probably look something like this when Smith eventually takes over at SG becauase we need his shooting in the lineup bad.

C Chandler 32
PF Stoudemire 34
SF Anthony 36
SG Smith 28
PG Lin 36
6th Shumpert 24
7th Fields 20
8th Jeffries 16
9th Novak 14

He really is a ridiculous defender. He held his own against LeBron and if we end up in a series against any team with a very good good 1/2 (Chi, Mia, Indy, Philly, Boston, Atl) he needs to be in and, if anything, MDA can do an offensive defensive switch w/ JR. If Iman ever can consistently put the ball in the bucket, he will be a beast in this league.

Fields should be considered becoming Melo's primary backup, but I think his chemistry w/ Lin keeps him starting unless he begins streaking with bad performances like last night.

I agree, D'Antoni did it in another game and it paid off. Also agree about moving Fields to SF. His game increasingly looks suited for the position. I'd like Fields to stay, but unless his role is changed, he might end up being be the odd man out.

Almost agree.

Right now (Rotation in Bold):

PG-Lin/Shump/Bibby/Davis(IR)
SG-Smith/Shump/Fields/Walker/Douglas(IR)
SF-Melo/Fields/Novak
PF-Amare/JJ2/Novak
C-Tyson/JJ3/Jorts (IR)

I love Fields, but the truth is he isn't a pure SG. It remains to be seen how J.R. Smith adapts to the team, but if everything goes according to plan, he should join the starting rotation as he is a better shooter and also provides another good penetrating guard.

There is an argument for leaving J.R. Smith on the bench, especially when Carmelo comes back. Defenses will have to worry heavily about Melo, Amare and Lin, which should certainly open things up for Fields to score. This could be true, but its also true that J.R. is a better shooter than Fields. Fields is a better rebounder and better uptempo, arguments to keep him in the starting lineup.

After everybody is healthy (Rotation in bold):

PG-Lin/Davis/Bibby
SG-Smith/Shump/Douglas/Walker
SF-Melo/Fields/Novak
PF-Amare/JJ2/Jorts
C-Tyson/JJ2/Jorts/JJ3

A twelve man rotation isn't ideal unless you are in a shortened season. This would be the best team we can sport out, but is one that needs to be healthy to work. Davis is a necessity right now because Lin needs a true backup. Fields can be the full-time backup of Melo while Novak can be used for specific long-range shooting needs. Jorts is a more complete player than Novak, a better fit in the frontcourt and also provides long-range shooting.

Now, you'd wonder why Douglas is included in the rotation? To me, he remains an enigma, but one that has been talented during his tenure here until he was made solely a point guard. He is flawed, but when playing right, he has a quality that this team needs: shooting. The last few games we have had to rely on Walker to shoot, we've suffered. Douglas can provide better shooting in limited minutes if necessary. Do I say now? No because Im afraid he is either still injured or still hasn't recovered from his surgery. But when he is right, he provides good shooting and good defense. But if he never becomes that player again, we still have enough players to make a serious run.

The way I see it now with Smith & Davis the 10 man rotation should be:

Pg: Lin, Davis
Sg: Smith, Shump
Sf: Melo, Fields
Pf: Amare, Novak
C: Tyson, Jefferies

the rest:

Pg: Bibby
Sg: TD
Sf: Walker
Pf: Harrelson
C: Jordan

That's a deep team with the potential to go far in the playoffs. A vet big man may be needed but I like this squad.

TLover - lists are nice, but where is the rationale?

1. why would you make Fields change positions in the middle of the season?

2. JR Smith just got here. You giving him a starting spot because of what exactly?

3. Novak is NOT a power forward. He is not a good defensive matchup at that spot. Why is he in that spot?

5. Jeffries has been running behind Amar'e, why shift him to center ahead of the more physical Harrellson?

Lin starts, if Baron Davis can play 12 minutes for 4 games in 6 nights, without his back flaring up, during the early March road trip - life am good

Fields starts, Shump comes for Masterlock defense, JR watches and learns, and EARNS his cameo minutes.

Carmelo and Novak spread the floor with their outside range.

Stoudemire brings offense and Jeffries brings perimeter defense. At 6'11 Jeffries can pester matchups at three positions. Very cool.

Tyson Chandler works against Harrellson in practice, not Jeffries. Jorts would be wise to work on a baseline 15 footer, not the three. Playing closer to the hoop puts him in a better position to rebound.

lol at "earning cameo minutes."

"We're going to try to fit him into our system and plug him in," D'Antoni said. "His talents fit our system perfectly — three-point shooter, put the ball on the floor, he can run a pick-and-roll, all that stuff."

D'Antoni is in love with his skillset. The SSOL is predicated on spacing and backcourt contributors that aren't completely useless. JR is going to have a big role from the get-go.

Stop the Fields Man-Love. He was a second-rounder that's going to be a decent bench contributor in the right system.

The mistake was hiring him. Now that he is here might as well get minutes - he is in shape and he can shoot. Fields will probably end backing up Melo.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!
