For all the complaints about Melo and JR Smith, i'm THANKFUL that we've got re-enforcements coming. You can't go up against the league every night with no bullets in your gun except for Lin, STAT and Tyson!!! Teams took away the paint and we had no perimeter game to make them pay. It's a HUGE part of the equation. FT's were awful tonight, but overall it's really the perimeter shooting that has to back up the PnR to allow it to be effective or else teams just pack it in on you.

         	        MIN FGM-A 3PM-A FTM-A
Bill Walker, SG 26 1-5 0-4 0-0
Landry Fields, G 34 1-8 0-3 2-4
Steve Novak, SF 20 2-9 1-7 0-0
Iman Shumpert, G 26 3-9 1-4 2-2

These are our shooters from the perimeter. You can't win if you can't hit shots. This leads to Lin feeling like he has to force it, which leads to more TO's. We really haven't had good shooting all year to be honest. This is the reason you want to have Melo and JR Smith and a healthy Baron too. With Baron not so much the shooting but another ball handler and decision maker out there.

I think the JR haters owe an apology to us people who have wanted him the most.

If Fields and Shumpert can't show up against the worst team in basketball at home, just wait and see when the postseason happens. My God, teams leave Shumpert wide open to load the paint. Fields has probably bricked more wide open three-pointers than most other players in the league.

Now when you close with a line-up of:

Lin
JR Smith
Melo
Amare
Chandler

who the hell are you going to double team? you try to take away one option and someone else will fck you up.

We can use that line up on certain situation cause that line up has no D.

Shumpert and Fields have no O.

We can't have defenses leaving them wide open every possession to congest the paint. Sure, Melo alleviates that quite a bit, but with JR at SG, the line-up has ideal spacing and could perhaps be the most potent and dynamic offensive unit in the league.

Fields had a bad night. He normally makes a lot of the shots that he missed tonight. I agree about Shump. He is almost as frustrating on offense as Jeffries in 09-10 on offense. I think Lin, Melo and Stat puts a ton of pressure on a defense and things should open up for everyone on offense.

It is all situational line up. No stops and you will be complaining about Dantoni no defense.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-Novak. It's really about having other options. We can't get what we need from a certain guy, it's nice to have another option and also JR has more ways to attack a defense.

My main concern is that perimeter shooting is HUGE for this offense. We will never have any room in the paint if we can't hit from outside. When you add in Bibby and TD it underscores even more how bad our shooting has been this year.

Shump unlike Fields has been hitting the 3 ball lately and clearly has much better form and is a rookie with no summer league and training camp

Not just Novak. Fields, Walker were a combined 2-13 from 3. Novak already has proven that he can get hot from 3 if set up properly

Surely. I'm just glad we've got help coming cuz it makes a huge difference when you have BETTER options out there all game and a big part of their success is also their reputation as a real threat to score. Teams get a bit more nervous and uncomfortable when you have guys like Melo and JR out there roaming around.

I'm really concerned with Fields shot. It's a frozen rope right now. No arc, no touch. Just a rocket straight at the basket.

I don't owe you nothin, guy. Remember that.

But I think JR Smith will be a good addition for this team. He will add another dimension; instead of playing in 3-D, we will now play in 4-D, and we don't need the glasses for this.

The addition of JR Smith will relegate Billy Walker to the depths of hell, or at least the bench. I don't expect Walker to get into another game all year.

Excellent point. Which is why Shumpert will likely be on the court at the ends of games when we need defense.

The problem with this line of reasoning is that we again have to choose between playing offense vs. playing defense. I think Stat-JR-Melo line up will be an open door policy. Melo can defend a bit and I really don't know much about JR but seems to be a one dimensional chucking type by most accounts-exactly what we didn't need.
