![]() Sunday could see the return of Melo and the introduction of JR Smith.
Nalod - Speaking of introductions, if I ruled the world I would tell Madison Square Garden Public Address announcer Mike Walczewski to chill. Especially in the first quarter. He would be wise to tone down the over-the-top treatment for Carmelo when he scores. The message is implied that every time Carmelo scores an angel gets its wings. That is not the message we need. John Condon had it right, especially early in games. A polite, "that was Carmelo Anthony" is perfectly tasteful. Same with everyone else. Linsanity trumps the need for any artificial hyperbole or "game show host" treatment from our home announcers. The special sound effects are drowned out by the excitement of the crowd. Let the people who paid to watch do the work of filling the Garden with noise. No prompts needed. Mortimer, we are back! once a knick always a knick

I think he should stop overemphasizing the NY accent when he says some of the names, but it's his job to go crazy everytime one of the more prominent players score. “Whenever I’m about to do something, I think ‘Would an idiot do that?’ and if they would, I do NOT do that thing.”- Dwight Schrute

The PA man is simply to identify the name in the context and flow of the game. If something extraordinary happens, the PA dude can go crazy. Everything does NOT have to be given over-the-top treatment. once a knick always a knick

![]() Earl, your right. But lets be real, "Dancing Harry" just won't cut it anymore. The opeing laser show and pyrotechnics is needed to move an exhausted group of over worked stressed out business execs and turn them into a wrestling frenzy crowd who need to leave the arena fulfilled and wanting more. Starphuching is not just roster hype, its the whole entertainment experience not just at MSG, but in lots of places. NY fan expectations are usually based on "we deserve this!". IN the lines of "FIre MDA if we don't reach the ECF THIS YEAR" "He had 4 years to do it and DON'T TELL ME ABOUT ROSTER CHANGES OR ANYTING ELSE! I EXPECTED BETTER!" Best fans in the world! Mostly, but to label ones self as "best fans in the world" is another thing entirely! For Knick fans, they play in "the worlds most famous arena!" Why is that? Because there has been about 4 different MSG's over the years and NYC is the biggest city in the country? I get it. College hoops peaked in the 1950's, Knicks not relevent historically since 1974, Rangers 1 cup in 60 years and what else? Great rock concerts and Political party conventions? Boston Garden had the banners. Yankee stadium has the banners, and Montreal Forum had the banner. Those places are famous for "Winning". Cathedrals of sporting history made. Sports wise, MSG is famous for overhyped teams. Sunday will be a big game and the world will be watching and if less than a rousing success, it will pick it a part! Big game but really nothing is on the line yet. Good things don't happen until May and June! |

![]() I looked this up out of curiosity. In Melo's last 5 seasons, his teams have gone 27-21 (.563) without him playing and their overall winning percentage has been .604.

![]() The 1st major event of my life outside of the Knicks title was Frazier vs. Ali. That is an iconic event for an arena. Just an unbelievable historic boxing match. So things like that get thrown into the mix of why MSG is so revered as an arena.

![]() Expectations.........
ONe game "are we contenders?" Next "OMG, this is never gonna work!!!!!!!!! Trend is not your friend and Amare will continue his decline and Melo is never ever never never ever gonna change!!!!!!!" Reality: Team is better than crap teams. Team is talented. Team needs time. If you there here has been plenty, then your impatient. If you understand the power of practice then you realize how little some have had. Some do better than others. Some had big changes and need it more than others. Davis should get better, Lin hit his FIRST wall. There will be others. Whats wrong? Expectations of fans! The Starphuching of Lin will continue so expect much. I hope MSG does not ruin this kid. Watch this Jimmy Fallon doing "Jeremy" as Pearl Jam! Great stuff! |

![]() Nalod, Lin and Jr both came in and made magic happen almost instantly.
We're gonna be saying "give time" for how many more years? I'm at the point where my view is: you either get it or you don't. Carmelo Anthony is ANTI-BASKETBALL

![]() A Full Year
MarburyAnd1Crossover wrote:We're gonna be saying "give time" for how many more years? Every time the KNicks change the roster, it takes a full year for the cohesion to take place. It took Miami a year to establish their identity. The clock starts on the Knicks after the break. ETA - February 2013. once a knick always a knick

True, but brand identity established from winning is a strong bond. Im not here for the Ewing Era (as are some), Im here because of Willis, CLyde, Earl, Phil. Bill, Dave, Jerry, Dick, Dean, and Nathaniel Hawthorne Wingo! My son watch's cuz I watched. Maybe its not a bad thing to win a title every 20 years just to be on the safe side? |
