The Bench has been playing LOCKDOWN Defense. when Amare sat down in the 2nd half, the bench came in and stopped the raptors from scoring. Melo's D isn't much better than Amare's.

not worried about the offensive flow when Melo returns, it's the lack of D from our 2 superstars that concern me.

Melo is an average defender although his defense is inconsistent. He's an upgrade over Walker on both sides of the court.

Before Melo went down in the Jazz game, the Knicks were playing smothering defense. Our defensive intensity lies in Shumpert, Jeffries and Chandler, sometimes even Lin. Melo can contribute to that as well without being a liability.

The Knicks held the Rapts to 12 points in the 4th quarter and Amare was in the majority of the time. Amare has shown that he can defend when he wants to. Needs to focus more on helping and recovering; thats seems to be his weakness. Melo has also shown tha he can dig in too. But the biggest reason why we are defending better is because of our up-the middle defenders. Shump's pressure at the top and Chandler in the back as an anchor. As long as those two are in the game to close, we will be fine.

Melo Defense is way better than A'mare on D. Melo is a good on ball defender below avg team defender at times but when it is crunch time he raises his defense team wise and on the ball.

Also, To me Melo is kind of like a defensive snob. If you are a super star player he will commit to playing good D but if you are a avg player to him he will cheat on D, take his eyes of you, and/or not pressure you until the game is on the line.

Last night, when Calderon was toasting Lin, the defense was for Lin to chase Calderon and STAT to show and recover. STAT did not show and Calderon hit the big shots. Fishlips came in and ran the same defensive play and ran the defensive play and they were able to get Calderon to give up the ball. Amare will need to execute in defense and I am sure he will do this.

Stat did in the later part of the game execute this D better on the pick and roll.
