How good has the Knicks defense been during this streak. Tonight they really came together as a team. Tyson and Jared locked down the middle and Lin, Shump & Fields locked down the perimeter.

This team has come together and amazing as it seems Lin has been a HUGE key to the defense looking so good. I think before we knew anything about him most wouldn't say he could be this good defensively, but his a revelation on D. LIN and SHUMP are a GREAT duo on D!!! So is Jared and Tyson. Just everyone chipping in and doing their best. There were some that doubted that the D was getting better but I don't think anyone can deny it now.

How about a hand for MDA and Woodson having this team ready to defend what the Lakers wanted to do. They made Kobe work hard for everything he got. The double teams and pressure D the Knicks used was very effective. That wasn't just bad offense by the Lakers. There was a LOT of really good D and hustle by the Knicks. They were ready.

Yeah I know, but we have to hope they can score at a higher rate than Walker and Jared to offset the poor D.

But yeah, to answer the original question, the defense has been terrific through this stretch. Tonight in particular, several times there were swarms of knicks around Laker players, forcing turnovers. Loved it.

Nice to see Jeffries finally getting the respect he deserves.

Melo is simply better than Walker on both ends of the floor. It's a shame he still takes plays off every now and then, but he's been much more motivated this year defensively than the past. No worries there.

Amar'e I think will benefit from Lin on that end as well. Won't have to work as hard for buckets, leaving more energy on defense. Not to mention avoiding those dumb offensive fouls will give him more leeway on D. And with Jorts out, JJ is still going to be an important sub off the bench for either Amar'e or Tyson. He'll still get his run.

We found a working combination these past 3 games, and I understand some people are nervous about changing it up, but we WILL be a better team with these two.

Thr Knicks d looked really good tonight. If they can achieve balance and their offense keeps improving with Lin moving the ball they could go far in the playoffs.

I am super impressed with how JJ and Chandler are controlling the defense and leading the team.

They complement each others defense very well... the opposing team gets scared with chandlers presence, they eventually forget about jeffries, who ends up drawing the charges.

Jeffries is a good team defender especially at the 4 spot.

We will be mad deep when everyone is healthy

Davis/Lin
Fields/Shumpert
Melo/Shumpert/Walker/Novak
Amare/Jeffries
Tyson/Harellson

I want Lin in the second unit with shumpert, novak, jeffries as they know how to play off each other.

Davis and tyson will be lethal. Lin has a hard time throwing alley oop passes.

I know what you mean but it's going to be hard pressed to remove him from the starting lineup. He earned it.

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/11335/jeffries-and-chandler-coming-together-on-d

Jeffries and Chandler have established a respectable partnership down low, and it's started with communication. Both guys credit approaching each other during timeouts and on the court discussing defensive schemes, and calling out switches and player movements on the court.

"We've built a lot of camaraderie, man," Jeffries said. "Tyson does a great job of talking and it's easy for me to go out there and play with a guy like him, and play at that level. It's fun right now. We're all having fun and we're just riding the wave of what Jeremy and Tyson are doing for us."

"I love having Jared on my side," Chandler said. "His communication, coming in and out of timeouts, telling me what he's seeing out there. I know he's somebody that I can rely on. Also, I don't have to help as much. When I can key in, like tonight, on Bynum and that's it, I'm going to shut people down. When I get in trouble is when I have to help other people a lot, and I come over and my guy already has the ball in scoring position."

...

"We have a guard now that's getting out on the break and making quick decisions," Chandler said. "Our problem before is we were getting stops, but then we were walking the ball up, playing at a slow pace. We didn't have the personnel to do that. We don't have anybody who's just going to just drop the ball in the post to and demand double teams, and all that kind of stuff. I'm not that type of player. We've got to get out. When we get stops, we've got to run, get into pick-and-rolls, slash, find open guys and knock down shots."

How can you take him out of the starting lineup when he has one of the best 3 game starts in over 30 years lol

Nice. Our only shooter on the periphery of the rotation. MDA will probably have it that way, too. I can already tell you guys what's going to happen when Melo/Amare return. The offense will be more dynamic but it won't be as fluid. Teams will pack the paint. NYK fans will look to crucify Melo because he still doesn't have the shooters to take advantage of his double teams.

You want Lin to work with Melo in the same offense? That requires an elite shooter at SG.

We NEED JR Smith to be an elite team and to make this offense work. plain and simple.

"LINISH HIM!"

The biggest problem was that our lack of a PG meant that we played too slow. We weren't actually playing SSOL. The reason you want to pick up the pace is that you want to attack the D before it gets settled. You want motion and not stagnant offense. We have that now and even with STAT and Melo if we play faster things will work a lot better. STAT and Melo can and HAVE played like that before. People forget that.

As for the D STAT has to be better at his role on D. He's often blamed others in the past including MDA, but that is what he and STAT argued about in the past. STAT simply never has played D and he has only himself to blame. The Suns would've been better on D if STAT had played better, but now we can see that it was really him and not some lack of training on how to play D. STAT has to step up.
