Would we have been able to keep:

Gallo
Felton
Chandler

I mean they have contracts that expire when 12? I'm sure they would have all wanted a raise? I think we would have lost two of them.

eventually we would be in the 80-90m area like Boston or the Lakers but we would have the same players to allow us to compete.
Thats the price Dolan and big market teams are capable of paying...

And that is including Tyson Chandler in there as well.
Wilson Chandler would have to decide between signing the qualifying offer or the 7m area resigned contract.
Then Fields or Wilson Chandler would be decided for the future this year.

We would have been able to sign Tyson Chandler if we could move Turiafs contract and have some money left to throw at The Mayor.
Not to mention, we could have moved AR contract for future 2nd rounder at the least to resign The Mayor.

Yup we would have been forced to overpay them which we would have done and been stuck in mediocrity forever. Some may feel that is still the case, but consider the power of using exceptions to sign vets to cheap contracts. Those players want to play with Melo, not Gallo or Chandler.

They were trade assets. We could have used them to get young, two-way players and/or draft picks. Nevertheless, I'd rather just lose them than be tied up in 5 years of Melo on a max contract.

Exactly what is you gripe against Melo?

Yeah not sure why the Melo hate. Along with Kobe he is the best 4th quarter player in the league. The best scorer along with Durant. He is a winner, just needs the right pieces around him. This is why people make fun of Knicks fans, they are all over the place.

It starts with being emotionally attached to the players we traded and works its way throu unrealistic expectations of what could have been to the point where it regurgitates itself as hate on someone who in no way desreves it. Sad but unavoidable.

Our full team from last year = Perpetual first round exits. But yeah lets pine for "assets" we had and then berate on the front office for doing what you are spposed to do with assets - Trade them. Problem is the average fan has convinced himself or herself that building the "right" way is so much more important than everything else. I guess this romanticizing of "building with young assets obtained through the draft" hs reached the level of a pandemic with NY fans. Tim Duncan and Derrick Rose type players don't fall to a franchise every year but let's keep building for another 10 years till one does. Yeah that's the right way for sure.

Well trading a few assets/ draft picks in one thing is one things but blowing up a whole team and draft picks in another. I mean if it was gallo, chandler, and picks that would have been fine but losing felton was a bad move and even mozgov who was our best option at center. so i know there are some melo fans here that think i and others are being stupid for questioning the melo deal but when the team takes a giant step backward as we are seeing its not so stupid is it lol

If we still had Felton we wouldnt have Chandler. Maybe we would have a slightly better record, but replacing a PG is easier than finding a quality center, it just takes time.

I understand team needs time to mesh since i play basketball myself but this team has been playing horrible ball against weak teams. i would understand if we were 6-8 against tougher teams but we have been playing piss poorly in a very soft schedue. that is concerning. plus we look a lot slower than last year on both sides

Well you can do one of two things. You can hold on to your "assets" then overpay for them or you can use them to get a player that can singlehandedly take you to the playoffs. There was zero chance of Melo or any other star coming here through FA by taking less money. Our team decided to overpay for top tier talent instead of eventually overpaying for second and third tier talent. You think that's a bad deal, yeah I get that. Bit two new threads a day will not change history. Melo is a Knick - get with the program.

I don't know man, I can't keep track of every thread, but there's ateast 2-3 threads a day even now bashing the the trade. I appreciate people who call Things out as they see it. There was huge amount of debate when this happened. But it was a year ago, and to continue to call it out doesn't seem to add anything to the discussion anymore. I actually accepted that we overpaid for him so not sure why you think I am acting like a dick.
