A lot of the 90's guys that played for the Knicks have become great coaches. Monty Williams, Doc Rivers, Mark Jackson, Scott Brooks. Thibs in Chicago was a Knicks coach at that time. It seemed like the Knicks would be good forever back then.

Mark Jax is a great coach? 12 games in? Monty Williams is a great coach?

Define "great"?

Anyone but MDA?

Monty Williams is a good coach with potential to be great.

Mark Jackson is to be determined.

We really should try and lure away Monty or Brian Shaw this summer after we fire D'Antoni.

I think my dream scenario would be if Phil agreed to coach here for a season or two as long as he could name his successor, which would likely be Brian Shaw.

Define coaching tree. I thought a coaching tree was when guys were actual assistant coaches under "Said" coach and actually sat in the coaching meetings broke down film, developed game plans, etc. Mark Jackson played for Riles and JVG but never coached with them so I wouldn't attach him to their coaching tree. Mark Jackson played for dozens of coaches in his NBA career, in fact, heplayed more seasons for Larry Brown than anyone I believe.

Same goes for Monty Williams. Was he ever an assistant under JVG? Monty actually comes from the NAte McMillian coaching tree. Thibs is the only one that actually comes from the Knicks/JVG/Riles coaching tree...

We've handled our assistant coaches the same way we view young players, they have no value until they go to another team and succeed. Because THIS IS NEW YORK can't rebuild and can't hire an unproven potentially up and coming coach. Oh wait of all those ex-knicks Herb was the only one to get a shot possibly the least likely to make it as head coach lol

Lmao...Knicks fans are ridiculous.

Monty and Mark Jackson are both coaching teams that have records of 3-9 and 3-8 respectively. Doc Rivers' Celtics are 4-7...

Way too early to say anything about Monty and Mark. Doc has at least won a title and has proven to be a good coach (I still wouldn't call him great yet). Thibs and Brooks are definitely off to good starts...

Don't look for the branches on the tree; go for the root!

Over the years, championship teams have proven
that a GREAT defense triggers the offense.
