$119 Mill and still sucks in late game situations. 1 - 7 from 3pt line against the Heat, scoreless in the 3rd Overtime, and can't close or lead against a Heat team without Lebron and Wade. Jamal Crawford on the other hand, maybe a defense-less chucker, but boy watching him in Portland with Matthews, Aldridge, Felton, Batum, Wallace, etc is a thing of beauty this season so far. Kinda wish we had more money to throw at him this season...

yes, was thinking the same thing about Jamal last night. he and Felton have looked great in Portland so far. Portland will be a top 3 team in the West this season.

I think the Knicks knew he wasn't gonna pass up the bigger payday with his own team. To my recollection the only FA's to take less money were Lebron n Bosh which was a special situation.
Luck seems to play a big part in who we've ended up with. Even the Amnesty rule was a bit of luck to fall into our laps.

Cardboard Man

"In the playoffs last season Johnson averaged 11.8 points per game in the second round, shooting a terrifying 29.5 percent".

More than anything, Joe Johnson has absolutely no personality. his demeanor exudes, "I got mine, go get yours... if you can... and leave me alone"

Idk, I thought it was in his court. That woulda been a definite amnesty.

if you recall correctly, the Knicks were honed in on LeBron. That was their first priority. And then it would have been whomever LeBron wanted to team with, and my impression was it would have been a big man like Amare or Bosh.

Maybe it was smokescreens but either way we are really lucky. However, Joe Johnson does much better in SSOL so maybe he woulda been super with MDA again :-)

I think the Knicks were initially trying to sell LeBron on teaming up with Johnson in NY if i remember corrently. They were trying to sell the LeBron/JJ/Gallo trio as being comparable to Jordan/Pippen/Kukoc. Seemed logical at the time.

I wouldnt mind having Joe Johnson right now. With the attention Melo and Amare get he'd probably beast here. Too bad we cant afford him with the new lux tax rules.

I wouldn't mind having him on a 4 year, $20 mil contract but that wasn't an option.

I would take a different perspective: Knicks would have sold LeBron on teaming up with whomever he wanted and JJ may have been an outside target IF he was in LeBron's peripheral.

More than likely JJ engaged the Knicks (or any team really, Knicks just had the capspace and media circus) to push the price up on Atlanta. And he succeeded. It's clear he could have gone to other teams that were in a better position to make deeper playoff runs, so most likely he wanted the $'s.
