What was going to be the plan if Baron did not clear waivers?
If PG is the most important position in MDA's offense, why was Chandler the priority?
Were we going to be this PG-less team all year?

This is what happens when you have 50 mil tied up in 3 players.

There is only so much he can do with a limited budget to fill the remainder of the roster.

Can't blame the defense. The offense takes time to gel under the best scenario let alone a brief training camp.

If this team can never ever, ever get the MDA then he need to be replaced, but lets be real, we then looking at iso ball with a strong defense.

What next? more "wait until next year when........."

typical knick season: Lay blame then starphuch dreaming!

The talent is there, the system is there, its just up to the players to get it going.

You should mention that to Pat Riley

Way too early in the season to pass judgment on this team.

It's what happens when you have 50 mil tied up in players that you should not have 50 mil tied up in.

I'm actually really impressed with the Atlanta GM.

He grabbed, Pargo, McGrady, Radmonovic all would have been very good additions to this team. Still makes no sense why we wasted a roster spot on Jared Jefferies.

Better said than I!

Riles got a better three than what we got. ANd they took pay cuts.

I think the realization of us being in trouble might be when fans start applauding Dolan for getting melo.

After the Melo trade, the only move I did not like from Grunwald is the Bibby pickup. Well, maybe the fishlips pick up also. The Tyson trade was needed for our frontline. Losing Shump for a couple weeks messed up the plan. Iman would have taken over PG duties by now if he did not get hurt.

count me among those not ready to anoint Grunwald as the second coming

--but--

this team always needed to replenish its depth. Billups wasn't the long term solution. Neither of those has changed.

What changed is you got Pringles running his mouth about championship aspirations and all that crap.

I like this as a base moving forward and think the team is closer than it was before the season begane. But surely this roster needs a couple of guards and back ups

I agree. I actually think we are 1 PG away from really doing some damage in the league. BIG IF...but If Baron comes back strong and healed then a backcourt of Shump and Baron with our frontline would be a sight to see.

Were we going to be this PG-less team all year?

We had the choice of either keeping Billups and having no C this season (and therefore no defense), or getting a starting C but having no point guard- I think we made the right choice (we'll have BD this year, maybe Nash next year), but either way we would have been lacking.

Still we may have gotten really lucky with BD, otherwise as you point out we would have had no PG this whole season. Still, before people start getting nostaligic for Billups, he's out at the moment with a groin injury, so if we had kept him we have still had PG problems with all his injuries.

In the immortal words of Keith Murray, "If an If was a spliff we'd be all F#### up!!"

How about giving him credit for beating out the Lakers (Baron's home town team) and others For Baron's services? Wasn't a secret that Baron would be amnistied way before it happened. We were discussing it here on this forum, so why wouldn't a guy getting paid millions to think and make decisions not no there was more than a strong possibility that Baron would be available. Again, Baron's here, He got him, give the man some credit....

The true evaluation for what Grunwald has done won't be made until later in this season. Surely you can't really judge much this early. 61 more games to really see what this team can be. I like the improvements that are already showing on D. This team defends much better this year. Still not at a very high level, but a marked improvement over last year.

Once we get healthy and start to play some games to develop more chemistry, then we'll start to see the offense pick up. Once STAT and Melo get going that will help a lot, cuz so far neither guy is really hitting at their normal level.
Getting healthy should also help to slide guys into better positions. TD can get back to being more of a SG if a healthy Davis and Shump can take over more of the duties of distribution.
