The right parts that complement each other all around...the right mix of youth, vets, offense, defense, hustle men,...the one piece were missing is a lagit 2g thats lights out from the perimeter...but I think we have enough for a long run...maybe not a championship this yr..but certainly next
I agree. It is so nice to not be waiting for next year. I loved the Tyson pickup and I think having the frontline that the Knicks do guys want to come to NY. Novak could be a real steal for the Knicks. This is from a blog article posted on realgm.
Steve Novak, what you need to know about this signing

Steve Novak was a no risk potentially high reward signing. You may not have heard of him or may have forgotten about him but Novak was a player in college and in addition to having good size was an incredible shooter. Here is what you need to know in looking at Novak as a guy that could spread the floor with a championship level frontcourt. Novak won the NCAA 3pt shooting competition as a senior. When Novak was drafted in ’06 the Rockets liked his game so much that they signed him to a three year contract with part of their mid level rather than signing him to the traditional two year deal for second round picks. In training camp that year Tracey McGrady called Novak the best shooter he had ever played with and mentioned that he had played with Jon Barry and Pat McGarrity. Novak has some other interesting distinctions. In college he shot 97 % from the free throw line one season and also shot 50 % for threes in another season. When he entered the draft in ’06 he had the lowest rating of any player I have ever seen that was put in a mock draft on nbadraftnet. Draftnet rates players on a scale of 1-10 for categories that would make an nba player successful. The maximum score a player can get is 100. Each category is worth 10 pts. Novak scored a 72. However, his shooting was the max rating, 10 and his nba ready rating was a 9. Novak scored a 0 in ball handling and passing and a 4 in athleticism. However all of his other numbers including potential, leadership and intangibles were very good. Much of draftnets negative ratings were later disputed in a workout covered by draftexpress where Novak, Rudy Gay, Gerald Green and another prospect all worked out together.
What does all this mean? In my opinion it means that the Knicks made another good low risk potentially high reward signing for a vet that fills a big need on the team. I think it also shows that there is room for Novak to improve and become a guy that contributes and helps this team.
