i don't think orlando will trade for brook lopez now. they made a big move for a guy with a stress fracture in his foot before - grant hill.
this article says they're basically forced to take bynum, who i think is the far superior player anyway.

Let’s face it: Andrew Bynum is coming to town
Orlando Magic — posted by brian schmitz on December, 23 2011 1:39 PM Unless Dwight Howard changes his mind about moving on, the Magic now will be looking to deal him for Andrew Bynum in the wake of a serious injury to Brook Lopez, another potential Howard trade partner.
Lopez will undergo surgery to repair a stress fracture in the his foot.
Howard has listed New Jersey — Lopez’ team — as his top choice on his wish list. He also would agree to be sent to the Lakers — Bynum’s team.
Lopez’ injury has thrown a monkey wrench into a potential Howard deal with the Nets.
What Magic fan hasn’t already had a Grant Hill flashback?
The Magic signed Hill as a free agent in 2000 even though he had a stress fracture in his foot — and the move haunted them for seven years. Hill had only about two productive seasons.
You just never know about big men and their feet. Zydrunas Ilgauskas was bothered for years. A foot injury sent Yao Ming into retirement.
Can the Magic take the risk that Lopez will recover?
Can they acquire him for Howard in what will be their most critical trade in franchise history?
He won’t be playing by the March 15 trade deadline.
The Magic might have no choice but to trade Howard to the Lakers for Bynum, who has been fragile himself with knee problems. But Bynum has looked great this preseason — and healthy.
Certainly, the Magic have even less leverage now. They want both Bynum and power forward Pau Gasol for Howard, but L.A. knows the Magic can’t use the Nets now to pressure the Lakers into giving up both bigs.
The Magic’s only trump card: The Lakers must trade for Howard because they are too far over the salary cap to sign him as a free agent.
But what if Bynum’s knee troubles return before the deadline?
The Magic are already concerned about his health.
What do they do? Bynum’s the better player, and has only one more year left on his contract — and it’s at the team’s option. Might have to roll the dice on him.
