The odds of resigning Deron just took a nosedive big time...

Add this to the Tampering charges investigation that could cost them dearly in Draft picks if the league find evidence of impropriety...

What a nightmare scenario for them.
They could be totally screwed...

Did the Magic actually file charges? Nothing would make me happier than to see them strikeout on all the big FAs this go around and lose multiple draft picks. They probably then would have to lock in Humphries for big money and sign a couple marginal talents to multi year deals. (See Travis Oulaw pt II) This isn't Russia, we have rules in America, lol.

I heard Stern talking on MadDog last night. He said the Magic never filed charges and as far as he is concerned the matter is dead.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Yeah, it wouldn't make sense to file charges against one of the teams that is hot n heavy to trade for your guy

The announcers were talking about the look on Deron's face last night, how he looked out of it and disappointed and that he better get used to losing.

This is what happens when you sign for $$$ on a team with no talent. You can make the case that Lopez is decent and they have a lot of draft picks but they are 3-5 years away from building a playoff team. In my opinion, that is a very long amount of time to waste during a short NBA career.

I don't see him resigning unless he only cares about the money.

How bad will it look for the franchise to move to Brooklyn with no stars and a crappy record?

He did not sign an extension. He will opt out at the end of the year and become an unrestricted free agent.
The only thing that NJ will have to offer him if they don't get Howard is Location (Brooklyn), & Bird rights to max him out.

He could resign, walk to another team with cap space, or force a sign & trade to a contender.

I want to beat the pants off the Nyets every time we play them,
but I choose not to gloat over another teams bad luck or injury.
That's how I roll.

Yeah. Injuries suck for everyone. I was honestly looking forward to an exciting start for the Brooklyn Nets, just so we can develop some sense of a decent cross-town rivalry (with the Knicks winning every game of course).

What sucks even more is I was counting on Mr. Lopez to be my one consistent, injury-free fantasy player but NNYOOOooo... he just had to go and fracture his ankle. The guy hadn't missed a single NBA game up to this point for crying out loud!

This is Fall is shaping up to be one of the strangest I remember.
All the chaos with the CBA, then Free Agents, then Amnesty, then Waivers, now the season is about to start and a major player for a team goes down with injury.
Not to mention the players coming back from China later in the season.

Agree, sucks for the Nets. But they took a risk getting Deron w/o commitment to sign, they will pay for it. Even when BroPez recovers he will now carry the "damaged goods" label. Orlando refused Pau and Bynum (separately) - Bropez isnt even in that ball park.

I think the Nets will do everything they can to get someone else in NJ to convince Deron to stay. I think he can make quite a bit more money if stays as well. The Nets have sucked for a long time but their new owner is serious and moving to Brooklyn will instantly make them a more popular destination. Deron might walk but I think the Nets had to take the risk and get him. When the new cba was first signed Howard wanted to go to NJ. He wasn't doing that if the Nets didn't have Deron. The Nets also still have cap space and a lot of draft picks.

They picked up Okur for a future second round pick and a trade exception. Nice pick up but I don't think they have anymore cap space for this season.

Okur is pretty old right? Is he any good anymore? They should have gone after someone like Rip. waiting for DH killed them.

Sucks that it happened for Brook, but glad it happened before a trade.

I won't wish harm on a person...but I have no qualms about wishing bad on a franchise. Maybe they can convince Deron to stay and play with next year's #1 draft pick?

I would say this is a career killer. Look what happened to Yao. Big men and stress fractures are not a good combo. Too bad. Im not high on his game but he seems like a good guy. Tough break
