Kenyon Martin has agreed to a contract buyout with Xinjiang of the China Basketball Association, sources tell Y! Sports.

Sign KMart!

This team needs a third big.

Anyone know if KMart and Melo are actually tight from their Denver days? Seems like he'd be a good fit here. Though, he might get more money if another team has more cap space.

apparently he still needs to wait until the end of their season to come over, though? weird.

Xinjiang plays regular season through mid-Feb., and likely will make playoffs. Martin can't get letter of clearance for NBA until it's over.

As part of agreement, Martin must honor China Basketball Association rules, wait until end of team's season for return to NBA, sources said.

So what's the point of a buyout?

I do not like him

Do not like his game, his demeanor, his verbal skills.

Do not like the fact he played with the Nets or his tats.

Do not like his preening, his age or his face.

Do not like his ego alongside the egos we already have.

Do not like him on my New York Knicks.

No to Kenyon Martin

Martin's buyout will set the precedent for JR Smith, Wilson Chandler, Aaron Brooks in China: None will play in NBA until CBA season is over.

Martin is an unrestricted free agent and can sign anywhere in the NBA come the end of Xinjiang's CBA season.

no, not weird. I've been working abroad and I'm eager to come home but can deal with it. Some love it. Some will do whatever it takes to get home ASAP

I kind of agree that I don't like his attitude. He's kind of a punk. or as Tim Thomas would say, "Fugazi."

He probably IS the best front court addition out there, though.

Curious to know if anyone knows whether he and Melo are tight or not. I feel like that could make a difference.

It's weird that he reached a buyout but can't come until the end of the season anyway.

have you been smoking from Marbury's stash?

I don't think what I wrote is so difficult to understand. While Martin cannont sign with another team, the team is ending his association with Chinese basketball. He can do what he likes with his time, which will likely include repatriating. Living overseas is not for everyone

I feel the same way about signing Kenyon Martin as i did when the Knicks signed Jalen Rose or acquired Steve Francis. It did not feel right.

It was not visionary nor did their tenure last longer than a few minutes.

Enough with the short-term mercenaries.

Let's grow some of our own yoots and build the heart and soul.

Any person who mentions trading Landry Fields, Jerome Jordan, Iman Shumpert or Josh Harrellson is permanently banned.

No more signings for the sake of short term, trading card-type fantasy silliness.

No to Kenyon Martin and anyone who looks like Kenyon Martin.

I miss Wilson Chandler.

I miss Wilson, too, but to quote Rick Pitino, he's not walking through that door.

I agree about developing the youths in-house already. But they need to add another 4. Maybe Novak can fill that role, but I see him more as a situational shooter.

It'd be nicest if Jorts could become the backup 4/5 this team so desperately needs.

Every team has to wait to sign Kenyon as far as I know - so the nice thing is the Knicks can play about 2 months and see where the season takes them and what their needs are.

Aaron Brooks and JR Smith will also be UFA when they get back from China. Of all the China guys, I like Brooks the best. Hopefully Baron Davis will work out well enough that they don't need him though.

crzymdups - Josh Harrellson and Jerome Jordan can sink or swim at the 4/5.

Let them play.

JR Smith is crazier than bat**** and Aaron Brooks is too light in the shorts. We have Iman Shumpert.

I still miss Mozgov.

Why does Aaron Brooks name keep coming up? Isn't he in the same boat as Wilson Chandler? RFA of PHO? And a PG? Do we need 4 PGs on the roster?

You're right, he's RFA from the Suns. Sorry, thought he was UFA. If Baron doesn't work out, thought it was a possibility, though as an RFA, Suns would surely match that.

I don't disagree with you, but signing kmart now is different than the names you mention. We are ALL IN right now, and the truth is we could use his grit on the front line come playoff time. We're looking for able bodies to fill a role, he can fill that enforcer role real well...

Im on the earl wagon today... agree with him 100%. Rather see Jorts fouling left and right then see KameApart in a Knick uni. Maybe some here dont remember the anti Knick trash talk he spwered 24/7 when he was a Net. I do. KMart can eat the corn outta my poop

Michael6835 - I have a ton of respect for your analysis. Kenyon Martin has one advantage. He knows how NBA refs call games. He has a huge disadvantage in eroding the team attitude being constructed in New York.

Just one year ago -

"(It is) my last year of my deal. We all know it. Ain't nobody in a hurry to give me (another) one. So I'm not going to be in a hurry to come back and risk it. Think about it. Ain't nobody in a hurry to give me a contract, so why would I be in a hurry to rush back and risk further injury? It makes all the sense in the world."

Martin only has said he'll be out another "few months" after undergoing surgery for a torn left knee patella. The Nuggets offered no timetable for his return.

Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri did not have much to say.

"Kenyon is a big part of our team," Ujiri said. "I think we all know that. And we're looking forward to his return from injury."

What he really meant:

"Dis mofo is pissing me off. He better get his azz in gear and suit up... before he's on a slow boat to China."

also add in the fact that he could get injured and ruin any shot at coming back to the nba.
