This is generally a pretty new team, with a lot of new faces this year. For the majority of this team, at the best, they only played together for half a season.
After the Melo trade at the deadline, Dantoni, never had a chance to implement his theory's and style of play of SSOL and system.
We are still trying for players to find their roles, on which some could be different, depending on the match up on any given night.
I think there are a lot of styles we can play, due the the skills of our players, lineups being used, and how well each player contributes to the system.
With the players, we have, with a couple of key role players and acquisitions. We can play in comparison with a couple of teams that have been successful.
Boston
Spurs
Dallas
Detroit
Phoenix
Denver
We know, from experience, playoff basketball is a totally different game from the seasons. However, playing styles in seasons games, can be just as important and crucial.
I like how this year, we have the players to dictate the tempo, vs previous years. A system, only works if the players and coaches have the skill set and execute it.
Easier said than done, we have to use the season to master the uptempo and defensive styles to master to make us legit Championship contenders.
Of course playoff basketball usually means breaking and tiring our opponent on both ends, in the likes of Boston and Spurs.
Making timely stops to put us whether we are up or down. Taking good shots, getting fouled, hitting free throws, and executing each play.
However, playing an uptempo style, and scoring efficiently, and breaking our opponents defense down, is just as important.
It would benefit the season, playing this style of basketball in the likes of Denver and the past years of Phoenix. This system fully utilizes an extended roster playing at a high energy for 48minutes. I will use Denver's style of play last year to exhibit to illustrate the pros and cons. They use so much energy with penetration and ball movement, they out tire out the defenses out by the 4th quarter. It requires playing in an high energy, which uses a lot of stamina, pushing the tempo to its max. They didn't play any players
over 20-25 minutes for the most part. But they were able to do so, because they had a lot of skill and depth. It can be said to limit minutes but maximize the players role and work load. Getting quality minutes out of every player, while, limiting minutes, and whether improving or decreasing chances of injury could mean the difference in the playoffs.
Dallas and Detroit are 2 teams, that mastered these 2 styles of lineups, and styles of play last year, and Detroit's previous years. We are missing a couple pieces to play both styles of play but we have the foundation to follow in these steps. While our own players are developing and learning their different roles at different situations in and styles their first year together. We should follow the blue prints of all these teams, adding the right players to while we master our own style.
I hope our coaching staff and Grunweld see's this and helps follows thru with the rest of our roster, attaining the players needed.
Even if so, it takes time, practice, film, trial, and error to master this.
Using the right players together, with the versatility, and skills is needed. We have a couple of dead weight players in Balkman and JJ.
Playing the possession, with a shorter lineup, and playing the majority of our best players would best suited in the playoffs.
But have the luxury of changing tempos with a 2nd, and 3rd team like lineup can be a great weapon to have.
It keeps the element of surprise and we can dictate the style of play, make sure we execute, and with the right results should fall in place.
I hope TD can accept the role, of Terry with better defensive, with his own style added to the twist.
Iman will eventually take over the starting PG job, with his ability to penetrate, and lock down our opponents best scorers.
TD's doesn't have the size and effectiveness Iman could strike vs Rose, Wade, Lebron, Wetbrook, and etc.
His role is just as important, at times guarding their 6th man and starters in lower dosages. Having an effective rotation of players, wings, shooters, and another SF/PF
is what we need. He doesn't always have to apply pressure, mixing it up, and playing them honest, depending on who he is guarding ex. Ray Allan, JC, or any shooter, always putting a hand on him, while limiting his moves with our help. Being able the play a zone D, like Dallas and Detroit did, when Chandler is in our lineups at times.
I think we need to make a couple small changes, twists, develop a certain comfort of units, while together.
players we can target in FA
Peja shooter to spread the floor, with high IQ, can be used for 2nd/3rd or possibly starting lineup with Iman although limited minutes....he played all of these roles b4
Jr Smith
Ak47 - a forward that can play SF, PF, C at times, another team oriented high IQ player, that can be a leader of defensive 2nd unit
Outlaw *which i doubt will make it to waivers* can be used in both, with his range and skills
Wilson Chandler
Affalo
Ariza *3 sign and trade targets*
or
Leon Powe
Mamario Moon
for a trade to under the cap team, it makes sense, a package of, in the area of, not limited to all....
Fields
Jordan or Jort's
Walker
Balkman
1st rounder
If we add the right players, I have a vision, a vision, that can land us to be favorites in the near future...make us Favorites for the next 5 years...
I think it is very realistic, Fields is a target because we use the MLE to keep him, which I think his production can be replaced. There are a lot of FA's this summer
I believe, we will attract players to come here at a discount, after we visualize and execute, according to these plans....
Ic, this year, as a learning year, like it was for Rhondo, with Iman Shumpert. Ic him as a major piece to this puzzle, with a couple of key acquisitions.
His production will be closer to Westbrook and Rose, the qualities are all there both physical and mental. I love the communication and leadership they both exhibit
with Tyson Chandler on the defensive end, If we can add
Ak47
Peja
Ariza
I would be ecstatic! Seriously, I believe, now how many can see the vision with me?
