We Went To Jared

Damn good question holfresh. Extra E should have been locked down the moment the lockout was settled.

Mr. Williams wants to be in New York and we want Mr. Williams to be in New York.

We had no idea Chandler was available when we committed to Jeffries. Probably would've still taken him though for the length, D and familiarity with the system.

Williams has an offer of $4M per year on the table. He'd have to take less - but he'd need more than the veterans minimum. Knicks can and will offer him the "room" exception of $2.5M per year if Crawford turns them down.

They couldn't offer anyone the room exception until the Tyson Chandler deal was done. And now they're doing due diligence by waiting on Crawford, who fills a huge need on the team.

Jeffries took the veterans minimum. If Shawne Williams had accepted that, he'd be in camp already. He wants more, so it's taking longer.

Don't make this a thing. It's not a thing.

It seems like Chandler was inked pretty quickly after Jeffries... So management knew they could have landed Chandler making Jeffries a "luxury" if I can get away with using that term with this guy...We could have waited a little and prob had more money to offer Craw ,to take a one year flyer...Or give to Shawne...

JJ signed for the vet min, so he isn't taking any money away from anyone in terms of cap space.

nope, not the way it works.

First, Jefferies inked AFTER Chandler. Everyone inked after Chandler. After Tyson was on roster, Knicks could resign the free agents and rookies (Fields, Jorts, Shump, Walker, etc). Minimum salary slots were available for the likes of Jefferies. Knicks have $2.5M slot open.

That's it.

So the monies used to sign our free agents to minimum deals have nothing to do with monies available to sign FA like Craw?

MDA most likely likes what Fishlips brings on the help D. There's no denying he can be a difference maker and help alleviate the defense lapses when Stat is in with the second unit.

If Shawne Williams would simply agree to the minimum... We could use his Bird rights after the season to give him whatever we feel he is truly worth.

I say promise him a 3 year 6 Mill per after the season...
(Don't put it on paper or we would shoot ourselves in the foot like Minnesota did with Johnson)

The same could be done with Crawford. If he agreed to the 2.5 Mill and did a sign and trade for a one year deal.. We would have his bird rights and pay him after the season.

do Bird rights come after 1 season? would Craw have to wait 2?

Bird rights would carry over from his old team if he is traded.
It does not matter how many years he signs for as long as he signs with Atlanta and then is traded to the Knicks at the lower salary.

If there are any rules barring 1 year sign and trade deals then we could do a multiple year deal and give Jamal an opt out after 1 to then resign with Bird Rights.

If he actually agreed to that, we could send then a 2nd rounder and some cash to balance it out.
If Shawne Williams agreed to the minimum with the arrangement of a big payday next summer we could still use that 2.5M exception on someone else as well.

With the Knicks, signing Shawne last season, and if he agreed to a 1 year vet minimum?
Would we have his early Bird Rights?
And if he takes 2 year deal with 2.5m?
We would get his full bird rights?

Or does it it need to be 2 year deal for early bird? not 2 seasons at vet minimum?
