New Jersey Nets owner and Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov plans to challenge Vladimir Putin for the presidency of his homeland.
The colorful Prokhorov, Russia's third-richest man with a net worth estimated at $18 billion, said he was emboldened by the sudden vulnerability of Putin, who has been the target of growing demonstrations throughout the nation.

“This is the most important decision of my life,” Prokhorov told reporters in Moscow.

In related news, James Dolan will be running for mayor of Hobbiton.

I don't know if this is good or bad for Russia... yes, he's smart and made billions. But he likely benefited from corruption and nepotism... made his billions on non-compete deals

would he have to give up ownership of the Nets? Seems wrong that the leader of Russia would be allowed to own a team in America that will generate millions in revenue that could be used against us?

Some owners have money. Prok would have money and a country with Nukes.

Me think he could put the team into a blind trust of sorts.

I was thinking he could convince Deron to resign by dangle him by ankles from helicopter until he signed.

Now he can put him in the Space Station for a month or six until he relents!

Could be cool politically - create a bond of friendship between us and the Russians. Perhaps the Nets play some exhibition games in Moscow and the Russians send some entertainment ensemble to perform in the arena in Brooklyn. I don't have any problem with it. I just want the Knicks to sweep the Nets in the season series.
