Yup Yup. This would absolutely be the next best signing for the Knicks. Barrea and Iman/Fields backcourt would be deadly for the frontline we have.

i support signing jj. i had fun watching him in the finals. i think his teammates would be good enough here for him to thrive the same way he did down there. plus, he's smashing a former miss universe. dude is good.

no actually i watched the finals from last year, you know against the heat, where jj carried that team when dirk couldn't. the dude isn't a superstar, but if we can add him to our team, it would only be a positive.

This would be a good move assuming we're not thinking about Nash next year. Personally, I'd LOVE to see Nash lead us to the chip. He's a NY homey and a solid human being. But if we're not going there, then this beats the heck outta Bibby. How do the make this happen? Better not involve sending Iman anywhere.

Minnesota now in the running. Why? I don't know: http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/12/10/barea-being-pursued-by-knicks-wolves/

interesting, from May:

Spoelstra: LeBron Will Spend Time Defending Barea
May 30, 2011

How much does J.J. Barea concern the Heat? They're actually putting him in the same sentences as the league’s Most Valuable Player. With a straight face.

“If you don’t treat him with the same type of respect as we did with Derrick Rose he can really come in and have an impact on the game,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “I’m sure there will be some possessions where LeBron will be on him."

OK, so James will also be guarding Nowitzki, likely in the fourth quarters. And Barea plays only about 18 minutes a game.

While there is so much attention being paid to who can put a dent in the Nowitzki Express, there’s a reason why Barea is getting a prominent position in Miami’s scouting report. It isn’t just what he does, but what happens to the Mavericks’ offense when he’s in the game. One of coach Rick Carlisle’s most effective weapons during the playoffs has been his shooting/spread offense with Barea playing the equivalent role of Chris Paul.

Adding JJ Barea would be a very big pickup. Don't know if they can make it happen without the MLE, but if they did, GEEZ! Think Miami wouldn't be worried about facing a team with that guy comin off the bench again? Don't know if they can do this, but it would be a good move IMO. Like him FAR better than adding Bibby.

He's better than TD but still a big downgrade from Chauncey.

I'll flat out say it...I prefer Toney to JJ.

Barrea looked great in the finals, but he's a scoring point guard, and an undersized one at that. Toney can light it up too, in fact he picked up his game big time after the Melo trade. Add in his defense and a healthy shoulder, it's not much of a contest in my mind. He still has a long way to go in terms of orchestrating the offense, but it's not exactly Jason Kidd we'd be bringing in either.

Let Bibby/Toney/Iman handle the point for now and just wait for Nash until next year.

definitely with you...would like him on the team but not if we have to lose TD or anyone else actually. If he wants our 2.5M then great...if not then have fun in Minny
