The Knicks will acquire Tyson Chandler from Dallas via a sign-and-trade.

The Mavericks will acquire a sizable trade exception in the process. The first year of Chandler's deal with the Knicks will be more than $12 million.

Dallas intends to be players in the 2012 free agency market and this acquisition will give them an extra asset.

The Mavericks will also receive a low-salaried player from the Knicks.

Salaries don't have to match since we would be under the cap if we amnestied Billups. That means we'd be able to absorb all or most of the contract. Then we'd only have to give a small salary or two to match it up.

If this is a sign and trade does that mean Bollups is involved and not amnestied?

I hope it's Balkman and more specifically, not Fields, Shumpert or Harrelson.

Dallas wants a small salary in return, not Billups.

Dallas takes back a huge trade exception to recruit a free agent in 2012 and the Knicks get Chandler without having to give up Turiaf (which is a plus for depth). New York amnesties Billups to get under the cap, which is unfortunate but is still smart.

I bet it will be Rautins or Walker that end up going if New York gets to choose.

damn, I was wondering how it would work. If that is the case, do we still get the MLE to use?

No, we will amnesty Billups to get under the cap and be able to absorb most of Chandler's contract in a sign and trade.

That means we lose the MLE.

Balkman should be the one if the Knick's get to choose. This exemption must be used this year 2012 as in this season right?
What I don't understand is, Billup's isn't even amnestied yet, how could we be under the cap?

It's basically a handshake agreement, then Billups gets amnestied then New York pulls the trigger on the sign and trade.

Golden State will look to give Deandre Jordan a contract.
I wonder if Dallas, will jump in the sweepstakes or for Matt Gasol as well.

Everyone is hoping it is Balkman. MDA won't play him. But it also could be Jordan, giving Dallas a center prospect back for Chandler. Especially if we keep Turiaf, there isn't room for 4 centers.

let's hope the Knicks draw the line at Balkman and the HUGE trade exception, and perhaps $ to cover Balk's salary.

I wouldn't mind giving up Jordan. I don't think he'll do much defensively or on the boards.

One more thing. If the Knicks didn't pick up Billups option, they wouldn't have to use the amnesty on him.
