OJ Mayo makes 5.7 million dollars this year and will be a restricted free agent Summer 2012. Memphis also has to match a close to max offer for Marc Gasol. Memphis will have little need for Mayo's scoring with Rudy Gay back. Last but not least Memphis drafted Josh Selby in the 2nd round.

I'm thinking Memphis would probably give him away for a 2nd round pick and Bill Walker.

Our current guard rotation is pretty weak with Billups (old), Toney Douglas (SG in PG body), Bill Walker (A 3rd string SG at best), Rautins ( ), and Landry (No handle and better suited at SF), Iman (unproven rookie)

I want us to go past the first round of the playoffs this year and I'd like some insurance in case we cant get Chris Paul. We'd get a quality combo guard and we'd have his bird rights for summer 2012 to possibly use in a sign and trade.

What do you guys think?

They will get much more for him. Minimum of a first round pick and a solid young piece better than Walker. From us they would want Fields and another asset and we wouldn't want to do that.

They cant afford to pay him with Tony Allen, Michael Conley, Xavier Henry, Greivis Vasquez, and Josh Smith.

I think they'd prefer the cap space and pick.

I think we have too many shooting/tweener guards already in the guys you just mentioned, to be honest. The type of guard that New York needs right now is a guy who can handle the rock and distribute.

I haven't been impressed with Mayo enough to say we should go after him. He's got talent, but as y2zipper said if we're gonna look for a guard we need a passer/penetrater.

We aren't getting Eric Maynor. Sometimes you have to get whats available. Billups bounced around for 4 years before signing a MLE deal with Detroit. The rest is history.

I agree I would love to get him if we only give up Walker and a pick. But I also dont think Memphis will do that deal. They will want more.

Yeah, I'd rather make a play for someone like Rodney Stuckey, who can score, play defense and is comfortable playing PG and SG.Of course, I would do this after I got a big body soak up punishment in the paint for STAT.

I like Mayo and I think he would do well in NY. However, the Knicks have nothing left to give other teams. The next tradeable first round pick is 2016.

I really like Mayo and think he would be very good on this team, but we can't get him unfortunately.

Honestly he was consistent his first 2 years. Last year was a bad year.

Memphis plays the inside out game with Marc and Zach dominating down low. Rudy Gay has to get his shots because he is getting paid the max. Conley was also extended so it was pretty clear who WAS NOT apart of that future core.

So he was sent to the bench knowing he was as good as gone. Didnt help that he got suspended for 10 games. Then you factor in Tony Allen eating Mayo's minutes as well.

Fact is Mayo is on par with Eric Gordon.

Exactly what need does he fill on the knicks. He's not a pg, he's not big, has never been an efficient scorer, he's a volume shooter, and he just got out played by Toney Allan and conley.

He would find himself in a similar situation here..

The efficiency numbers indicate otherwise. Another major difference was the All Star lobbying on Gordon's behalf whereas absolutely no one thought Mayo was on that level

By the way, I would favor a Mayo acquisition in the future.

It would be a huge mistake getting Mayo now though. He definitely is not worth jeopardizing the 2012 free agency over
