I'm still an advocate of making Dwight Howard our # 1 priority but if it's Paul then Okafor is going with him.

The Hornets are bankrupt and Okafor's contract lasts another 3 years at about 13 mill a season.

If we basically trade our whole team (beside Amare & Melo) we can take on Okafor too.

Since we need a Center, I'm all for Okafor who is a defensive player who rebounds & blocks shots. That's all we need from our Center. Worst case scenerio, we amnesty Okafor if he doesn't work out.

Problem would be filling out the rest of the roster. :

Starting 5 could be impressive though:

Pg: Paul
Sg: (Grant Hill at vet minimum)
Sf: Melo
Pf: Amare
C: Okafor

Paul plus Okafor is too much money. Knicks don't have enough players to cover that.

Paul+Okafor = $28,901,617
CB, TD, Fields, Turiaf, Walker, Rautins, Brown & Balkman = $24,933,777

Worked on the trade checker, but it could be off.

If it could somehow work, that's a big selling point.

it would be very close. I personally wouldn't be interested. Add in Shump, Jorts, Jordan, and whoever we sign, especially if its a MLE type money at the deadline. Problem is even if we do amnesty Ok4, we would be over the cap with Cp3, Melo, and Amare. Leaving us totally depleted. I have high hopes Shumpert.

Again, I want Dwight. Any team that gives their own 2 draft picks for Dwight is giving back much, assuming Dwight will bring them in top top 5 the league.
Only chance I think we have for trading for him is eating Gilbert's contract and then Amnesty him. Whatever, pleases them at this point, Melo or Amare, Fields, Turiaf, Balkman, Jorts, Jordan, or anyone they want besides Shump. I also would like to keep TD too. We would still have have cap room in the summer and MLE the following year?
Does anyone know if do you have to be over the cap to use the MLE? Could you use it to make your team go over the cap?

Orlando is way over the cap, at this point and they will never get fair value back for Dwight. 63m for 3 years and they get instant salary relief for Gilbert's contract.
Orlando can choose to amnesty Gilbert themselves but he is done. Whoever will amnesty him will wind up paying most if his salary, I don't see anyone paying more than the veteran's minimum for him.

Its going to take awhile for Orlando to rebuild. They wouldn't be much under the cap, but at least they won't have to pay Gilbert's contract or luxury tax.
They can decide to use the Amnesty on Turkoglu if they want. There's a chance that someone will pay him around the MLE money.
I am not sure if they can get draft picks for Redick and Nelson.

But comparing the deal for 2 New Jersey Nets 1st round picks and Brook Lopes for Dwight, I think the package New York offers is way more attractive.
I highly doubt Brook will stay and he won't be cheap either. 2 1st round picks, wont have much value since they will be very high.
Orlando gets a locked in top 15 player in Melo or Amare. Most importantly, they get rid of Gilbert's contract with using the clause themselves.
Dolan would have to be willing to pay very high price tag for Dwight.
How many teams will be willing to eat up Gilbert's contract is the biggest question?

If Lakers are willing to part with Bynum + Gasol, and eat up Gilbert's contract, they will be giving the better deal. Bynum's next year is the team's option. So Orlando can choose to extend him or use him as an expiring or redeal him for value in the future...

retrade Melo back to Nets, for Lopez and 2 draft picks and get way under the cap....

Same with Bynum/Pau if Lakers are willing to do so...

I think this is the best way for Orlando to rebuild...

Only way the knicks trade for CP3 is through some kind of creative trade. I wonder if this is a situation were you could inflate Landrys contract with a PPP. Not sure if it Second round draft picks count though.

you forgot Billups big expiring contract. I think its something like 11mil.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

New CBA rule allows 150% leeway in matching salaries if you're a non-taxpaying team. The trade should work.

Moreover, we can also sign a $5M 1-yr MLE as trade bait to possibly cover Ariza's salary as well.

Only problem is I don't think NOH is interested in just "dumping" Okafor. They can get some better value for him since he's a center, plus with the CBA's new 85-90% minimum spending rule, they need to fill out their roster somehow. If they shed all three of CP3, Okafor, and Ariza's contract, their salaries would be so barebones in 2012 that they'd end up having to overpay some other player just to fill their roster. Why wouldn't they just keep their center in that case?

Since that would solve our point guard and center issues, I don't see it happening.

They are going to ask for one of our young centers in this deal. Jorts or Jerome Jordan.

I'm thinking they wait to see how some of our pieces look (Jorts/Jordan/Imam. If one or two of them look decent (Dolan go by a few draft picks) they might pick up the phone and call us.

To be honest, I wish we had a shot@ Nash to mentor Imam. Nash may lack defense but he bring so much more to the plate.
