Report: Thunder working to buy out Nate Robinson

You can add Nate Robinson to your list of free agents that fans love way more than GMs do.

Not officially, yet. Officially and through Dec. 9 Robinson is a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder set to make $4.5 million next season. But the two sides are working on a buyout, tweets J. Michael Falgoust of USA Today.

Nate Robinson will be bought out by #Thunder so he can become free agent. They tried to do this before the lockout. Working on it now.
This is mostly about roster space — after coming over from the Celtics last year (in the Kendrick Perkins trade) Robinson was used in just four Thunder games and played only 12 minutes total in the playoffs. He’s not part of the Thunder’s rotation.

It will not save the Thunder money, unless they decide to use the stretch provision of the new CBA (which seems unlikely for one year at just $4.5 million). That full salary will stay on the Thunder’s cap for this season, minus half of any deal he signs somewhere else. (So if Robinson signs with a team for $1 million, the Thunder get $500,000 off the cap.)

Teams looking for some scoring punch off the bench and a guy who will get the fan base excited may want Robinson. He’s not efficient, but he is entertaining.

It was always a myth that Nate was inefficient. He was a very very good offensive player and he even did well playing the point in spurts. It was his effort on defense and his acting up that drove fans nuts.

I think it was more driving the coach crazy than the fans. Ialways believed that if he could assume a serious demeanor, that Nate could be a force. I just hope it happens before he loses his fire.

Well it drove me nuts how he always acted up. I was one of those that supported his benching by MDA when he was hear. Turns out he wasn't the only coach.

I bet he ends up in LA or some other contender. Nate can have an impact - but he is a role player, a specialist. Off the bench fire, which isn't always there- kinda like Jamal Crawford. Don't ask these guys to be stars- just fill a role on a squad, and their talent outweighs their negatives. But as stars, their warts get magnified.

he has just been dumped by 2 teams that I would consider top tier competitors: Boston and now the Thunder. I suspect other top teams have taken note of that.

how dumb is it not to work on your point guard skills when you vertically challenged. What's he going to do when those knees go. He's pretty much a knee injury away from being unemployed.
the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

How can you be sure he has not?

Im going to guess Nate has some attention deficit issues that could hamper his on court decision making.

Now that he could be a free agent he might want to consider China. He could really be a star there with his talent, personality and the novelty of height. Im thinking Saturday TV cartoon type hero!

As I said before, he plays the PG position very well in spurts, but whether you like it or not, he's still a scorer... a very good one coming off the bench. People who don't think this should be his game aren't appreciating what Nate is as a basketball player.

Like I said before, it's his head that's the problem. Him celebrating after plays, getting technicals in crucial situations, paying too much attention to Will Farrell when he's on the bench. That's the crap he was dumb enough to not fix... and his lack of concentration on defense.

Do they watch cartoons on Saturdays in China?

Nate's a six year player on the way down. The dunks were fun, (including the Allstar game commercial playing the violin) the antics weren't. After 6 years, if you can't stick in OKC, I'd agree China would be the most viable option.

We put a man on the moon 50 years ago, but we can't find some way to bottle those hops? Who really needs hair or whiter teeth?

I am Asian, white, Hispanic etc... is it possible for me to increase my vertical? The Jump Manual has been effectively used to increase vertical on every continent. White men CAN jump, and so can anyone else regardless of race. Muscle fiber, although genetically endowed amounts vary, can always be trained to be more and more explosive. Unless you have a vertical in the 40s to 50s you are no where close to your genetic potential.
