Not sure what the cap # is yet but seems to be a lot of articles about the Knicks having a shot at a 3rd max type player next summer.

Seems to be able to do that we would have to resind bird rights on Douglas, Fields, etc. and package Jerome Jordan, Shumpert and the Kentucky kid so our roster/payroll is essentially totally devoid of anything but Melo/Amare then do what the Heat did and bring in minimum players around the Knicks 'big 3'

So is that the plan?

How do you execute that?

With Melo we had some lottery talent with Gallo and a lot of other nice pieces. We dont have anything close to that to complete a mid season trade for a Chris Paul caliber player. Jerome, Turiaf, Shumpert, Fields and Rautins are NOT going to land us CP3 or a bigtime center.

So what do you do with those guys? Trade them for future draft picks?

This might be the year that I stop caring even more about the Knicks.

Funny, I put up with 10+ years of sucking, and now this 'one more star' and we'll wait seems to be killing me.

all those years of sucking were brutal because we never had young talent to show for the losses, only traded picks. Last year I was pretty damn into this team. I thought we had a roster loaded with good young talent size and skill lead by a star in Amare and a tough PG entering the prime of his career AND max cap space at the end of the season.

Obviously that didnt happen and with Walsh out of the mix I have zero confidence we will be doing anything more than looking to add scorers who will sell jerseys

I loved the team before the Melo deal. And for me, I love guys that try. I really first became a fan the year Bernard went down. As much as I hate to say it, but give me guys like Daryl Walker, Rory Sparrow & Louis Orr- guys with marginal talent who gave it their all every night, instead of someone like Melo who is very gifted, but with a real questionable motor.

And your right- this year- god knows what kind of talent they'll be able to get, and if they do, they'll probably be released next year just so we can sign Melo & Stats buddy with the really questionable knee.

I hope they have a good deal on league pass, or that maybe the Nets get good. Both doubtful.

And do you think Stat or Billups can actually last 66 games?

At least we'll be able to watch MDA squirm.

damn 34-32?? that's a bit dire dont you think? i get that there are questions about this team winning a championship, since defense is a big questionm, but if there is ever a team that is built for the regular season it's this one.

Knicks are gonna be good this year. Iman Shumpert is gonna be our Rondo (not the exact type of player -- just the type of rookie that benefits greatly from the presence of star teammates)...

the CP3 thing prob won't happen this season anyway. there's no incentive for anyone involved. if CP3 forces an extend and trade he can only get a 3 year extension. if he signs with us outright in the offseason he can sign for 4 years.

my prediction: 40-26

Yeah I had a feeling people would say that. I was not impressed with how they looked last year post-trade. There's uncertainty about Amare's and Billups' health and Carmelo had multiple injuries and I think multiple surgeries. I've always thought that even the healthy Carmelo was a chucker who didn't help his teams very much. I'm not as critical of him as most of the Denver fans are but I've never been a supporter of him. Carmelo did play better with the Knicks than he has in most of his career and if he continues to play at that level, then I would revise my prediction to more like 38-28. People have a tendency to read way too much into small samples though.

I think 500 is going to be best case scenario. Amare and Billups won't last the entire year, and then besides our 'big three' we really don't have much right now that you can count on.

36-30... no team is going to have chemistry and this team will steal a few games by having the best player or two on the court

whoa... the Knicks will be better than .500

Evil is probably closest to the regular season win total.

The only way the Knicks are around .500 is if Melo or Amare miss significant time.

They may not be big, they are a poor defensive team but they have a pair of all star forwards and you figure most nights the Knicks will have the best player on the court, if not the TWO best players. You can also hate on MDA all you want but he wins games with talent.

The Knicks will be GOOD.

I HATE the Melo trade because its locks us into being GOOD.

The problem is we will lose a 4/5 or 3/6 matchup again vs. the Celtics, and we are in NO position to overtake the Heat, Bulls or the Magic anytime soon. Hell, the Hawks look better than us and thats just in the EAST.

Im not excited about that.

Melo is uber talented, and he's no Steph. He's a good guy. Hell.. I root for him when I watched. I dont want to see the guy fail. There's plenty about his game to like and focus on. He's an all star and will win us plenty of games. He's just the guy you trade your roster for.

Ah here we go. This is the pessimistic UK we all know and love.

Here's the reality of the situation. There are only a select few players in this league with the talent to win you a title. Even the draft doesn't produce those kinds of players every year!!! We have 2 of the top 10-15 players in the league, depending upon how you rate them. Still that's a major thing. In the East that is a major advantage. The team has a chance to maybe add to that talent with another elite level player. How can any Knick fan be down about that??? Bad Knee or not CP3 was an absolute BEAST in the playoffs and chances are he'll be better this year since it usually takes 2 to get back to full strength after a major surgery. Then don't forget that we also have a shot at Deron and Howard, even if it's not as likely as CP3. That's where this team is at.

We lost for 2 years and then added 2 All Stars last year!!! They have to play this thing out and see what happens in 2012. Let's be real here, this season wasn't likely to be a championship season anyway. It was always going to be a year to play out and see if there will be an in season trade for a Max player or off season FA signing. In either event there was a chance there was going to be change.

The team isn't a finished product and wasn't a finished product before the Melo trade. Building a winning core was always in the plans. Most think this team needs one more key player to really compete for a title and the Knicks are going to do everything they can to have a chance to get that player. Gallo and Chandler aren't elite players. STAT and Melo are!

Unfortunately that might have been our most dissapointing team ever.

All big names and awful basketball ------

Frazier
Monroe
McMillan (Jim)
Haywood
McAdoo

I'm more optimistic about our current team but we do need CP3 to get easy shots for everybody.

if they get that ultimate disher (CP3 or Deron) to set up Melo and Amare you got something. In fact its something that Mia doesnt have, and CP3 was a defensive stud before getting his injury, and looked pretty good there. If the Knicks have those 3 guys and Dolan's deep pockets to overspend on role players we can compete for a title.

Of course, there are about 12 other teams that can say "If we just add CP3 overpay for some role players we can compete for a title"

Nothing groundbreaking there...

Kenny Bannister
Pat Cummings

There were expectations of those guys?

That list should include Eddie Lee Wilkens!

After BK went down, the expectation was a 20 game losing streak! They only made it to 12 to close out the season...
Eddie Lee was left off because he met or execeeded expectations...

plus, i hate anything "Lee"...

are the Knicks going to be a real team this year? Or just more pump and dump?
