Had an AT&T tech in the house 6 hours yesterday installing the new internet, phone and TV service.

This is similar to the Verizon "Fios".

Basically I'll save $600 a year and get faster speed and more channels. When I take off my Phone land line, save another $400.

I had Time Warner cable. Nothing wrong with it but savings is savings and I was promised higher resolution on the High Def side.

Have to say the picture does look quite good and the navigation moving around the stations and guides is much faster. The new boxes are smaller which is good but lack some things like a power source on them for power up and power down a TV, and the inability to have two sound output choices without programing. Perhaps I can program my remote to take care of this task.

The scheduling of the service was very poor and went on for months but the install people were great and the equipment seems top notch.

Every where I read and no body could tell me differently was that NBA League pass was not available last year and nobody new if it was to be this year (obviously!). I did see a group of channels dedicated so I suppose it will be.

On Time Warner It offered two HD games and the rest in standard. Im hoping all the games on this service are HD! Makes a big difference. Does anyone have FIOS and a league pass last year? Were the games all in HD or some were, and some were not?

Cheers!

Man living way down in the South we're still waiting for Uverse to be available. They have it in the northern areas already and I've seen it. Looked really good. I'll have to find out if they carry MSG tho.

Moon,

I don't get MSG. I get YES, but games are blocked out. Yanks and NEt games blocked. Even If I got MSG, there would be no games. Of of NY Markets don't get games. Thats why they have League Pass.

Nix, Im in North Carolina and we are just getting Uverse. I hear good things about Fios and so so reviews on Uverse. My installer said I had an excellent connection and would not expect problems. I hope he is right.

Competition and deregulation leads to innovation and better pricing. ITs about time the Cable companies got some pressure. No one is making me upgrade but the choices are tempting and its nice stuff to have.

I want to watch lots of knick games in HD!

My brother got Fios in Pennsy and he threw the unit, the installer, the repair guy and ultimately his bill out the window. FIOS = Garbage.

FIOS is the best thing to ever happen to my home. I had TWC and Cablevision before. Fios is way better and MSG HD arrives on it mid December.

I have the top tier of TWC, and there are issues. When it's full speed and working right, it's pretty good. But I will switch to FIOS in a split second when it becomes available here. Hopefully by then FIOS will have MSG HD.

Down here the local cable company us Cox and they have a lock on just about everything. Of course there's also Direct TV and Dish but Uverse would be a nice addition to the choices. Each service has it's strengths and flaws. I just wish they'd let consumers have more options like being able to see what we want without blackouts. The whole blackout policy is garbage. We pay for a given station only to have it's most valuable programming blacked out!!! Pro sports get away with far too much. Blackouts, public funded arenas, antitrust exemptions, high ticket prices etc. It's time to give the average fan some breaks!!! NFL, NHL and NBA have been reducing what they pay players but fans get stuck with higher tickets and arena tax burden. Yet another area where the common man gets screwed.

U-verse picture quality for sports is slightly better than Time Warner at best. You will notice when things start moving quickly on screen the picture quality degrades like crazy. However for normal TV viewing U-verse is solid.

The only service that has pretty much EVERY NBA League Pass game in HD is Directv. This means you get access to the home and away feeds in crystal clear HD that doesnt pixelate when the plays start running down the court.

Day 3......Everything looks better. Very impressed with the quality. I have every kind of flat panel tv in the house of and they all look good.

Anu, there are many variables that go into what you describe as "ghosting" which is a pixelated aura around a player moving fast. You see it in standard definition and see it with a lower refresh rate TV. My lower refresh rate TV looks good so far.

Depends on the tv and the quality of the signal.

Switched from OptimumIO to FIOS. I love FIOS. Picture quality and Internet connection speed is better, but now I am dreading watching MSG not in HD. I thought I heard somewhere that FIOS got MSG HD. Anybody heard this before?

I had switched to FIOS and then switched back when Cablevision gave me an incredible deal.

My aggravation with FIOS was all customer service related - every time I called up with something, I'd end up in totally different support area, and sometimes would have to call different numbers. And then my biggest grip was the billing cycles for the three services didn't line up, so it was impossible to actually know what they were charging, and whether I was getting all my discounts accordingly.
