I know many of you are sad that you won't get to watch NBA games this season, but there is a bright side to all of this, if we would only stop and see it. You now have more time to...

  • spend with your wife (girlfriend, boyfriend, whatever), your children, and your dog. Do some of those chores around the house that the Mrs. has been nagging you about. Fix that leaky pipe, install that new shelving unit, etc. Help your kid with his homework and his alcohol problem. Walk the dog. Roll around on the floor with him and let him slobber on you.

  • pursue a new hobby. Haven't you been wanting to learn to play the banjo? Now's the time! What about that string collection you used to have?

  • volunteer to help those less fortunate than yourself. Adopt a homeless person. Give him a place to sleep and rehabilitate him. Hire an ex-con to work at your business.

Also the legal wrangling may well be more entertaining than NBA basketball.

No BB is the worst thing in my leisure life that can happen! I know that sounds sad but I actually clear time just to make sure very little interferes with my enjoyment of the NBA. Ok if I have to think of a possible upside perhaps I can take the time to get back on the court and actually play a little. I'm not in BB shape anymore but I could get my stamina back with some consistency. I'm pretty sure my sons would destroy me now. That ought to be fun .

You can't play ball to get in shape, you have to get in shape to play ball - Kenny Smith

Are those walk-ons actually going to be getting any burn this season? That 4:30am tryout was the feel good story of the bb season so far.

The best thing about the lockout is that LeBron will lose yet an other year in his quest to win a ring

Yay! No more distraction from my life and my personal problems!

To be honest, I could use the year off as a Knicks fan.

Im such a bitter Knicks fan part of this is a relief. I dont hate the team, I mean Amare and Melo are good players but neither defends, the roster has no quality size and our pipeline is garbage unless your going to sell me on Douglas, Shumpert and Fields being the next Bobby Jackson, Rondo and Rick Fox.

This is a 45-50 win team build to lose in the first round to any team with size... and thats not changing anytime in the next couple years. Sorry, but we are looking at another first round sweep in a 4/5 matchup w Boston.

I honestly applaud guys like nixluva who see nothing but the silver lining but I dont anymore. The Melo trade killed it for me. At least with some young tough players, an athletic 7 footer and some nice young pieces (we were the 2nd or 3rd youngest team in the league) it was worth watching. Now we scrapped it all for Melo, a great scorer but a playoff loser who doesnt defend and improve teammates and 50 year old PG. Its not interesting. Im already a Yankee fan. I dont need to follow ANOTHER team of overpaid players with vastly inflated opinions of their games. Im good thanks.

Let them cancel the season. I hope they do. I just dont care. It would take something epic for me to start caring again.

When Melo shows up in shape and starts the year playing defense and passing the ball let m know... I will watch a game or two. In the meaning with all the spare time?

(in no real order)

play with kids more
play guitar more
smoke more hooch

I've always liked nixluva's optimism too. It's strange, last year after the Melo trade, I kind of lost a bit of interest in the team for the first time, which is weird- why did I follow the Knicks during the IT years, but saw my interest wane after the Melo trade? I still don't know, maybe it's because of going from the unpredictability of watching our young players develop and hoping they have a breakthrough game, to having seasoned players who you know what to expect from. Not quite as exciting. The gutting of the roster didn't help (most of our roster absolutely stinks!).

Still, his lockout has been harsh- I hate not having basketball- if, as it seems, this season is lost, then next game would be 18 months since the last one.

Sam Sealy got onto the team from the tryouts... he's played, but not much.

The other guy is worth watching is God'sgift Achiuwa. He's a Nigerain JuCo transfer, and his brother's name is God'swill.

St John's really took a hit with losing students to academic ineligibility, but Lindsey and God'sgift were great additions. If the rest had been eligible...
