This from today's New York Post:
Layden has had numerous conversations with Polynice's agent, Dwight Manley, since the start of preseason but refuses to pull the trigger, even though the 36-year-old 7-foot veteran is willing to play for the $1 million veteran's minimum.
If Polynice is in shape, he represents an upgrade over Spencer, who has started all five of the Knicks' games in Camby's absence and is an offensive embarrassment. Blowing virtually every layup he gets, Spencer is shooting 2 of 8 from the field. Averaging 2.8 points. Spencer basically starts to keep reserves Othella Harrington and Clarence Weatherspoon out of foul trouble, bang some bodies and grab some boards.
Layden has also passed on free agent Otis Thorpe and recently waived players such as Will Perdue, Derrick McKey and Dickey Simpkins.
What the heck is wrong with Layden? I understand that the aformentioned players are not the most gifted in the world, but surely they'd be better than Felt.
And why doesn't JVG give Travis Knight a chance? If he can't get 5 minutes a game now, then he never will. So if he's not good enough, why not waive him?
We suck.
