The bad news for James Dolan is the lockout, but there is some good news for the Knicks owner. [Dolan] is content about one of the agreed-upon aspects of a new collective bargaining agreement: the size of the salary cap will not go down. More than any team in the NBA, that will benefit Dolan's big-market Knicks the most, ironically. According to multiple sources, one of the resolved issues in a new CBA is the 2011 cap will remain at the level as it was in 2010 -- $58 million. ... [Sources] say the salary cap will then grow to about $60 to $61 million in 2012 -- when the Knicks will have the largest cap space in the league and have room to woo either Chris Paul, Deron Williams or Dwight Howard.

I really don't get how the numbers of this new proposed cba are going to add up- without a rollback of existing salaries and the cap, how are they going to fit within the BRI share of 50% (which is a 12% cut in player salaries, I think)? What happens if player salaries exceed the BRI and the amount kept by the league just in case (is it about 8 to 10%) isn't enough? Do players then have to write a check to the owners? I just don't believe the cap will stay at 58mil then go up to 61mil- it doesn't add up.

The Knicks better have a win total at least in the upper 40s if they want to be a desirable place for a star to come to.

This Knicks team is going to be a 50+ win team! Too much talent to be stuck in the 40's. That was last years team before the trade. Of course we're talking a full season which isn't likely anymore but you get the idea. I expect the Knicks to pick up a vet Center which should round out the roster.

What they do in the 2012 FA Market is another story. Who knows! The entire point of this CBA is to stop teams from being able to collect All Stars so I can't imagine them letting the Knicks add a 3rd.
