Talks btwn the players & owners just ended. Split of BRI is still the issue. Neither side budging. Players still at 52, owners at 50.

Don't want to ruin the party, but I'm hearing things may be on the verge of blowing up again. BRI is extremely sensitive topic. #NBA

It sucks to be so close yet so far. Still, the progress made means they will hopefully continue hammering it out. Players will get sick of not getting paid, and ultimately they will be some resolution.

Hunter said when Stern told me last night he was prepared to make economic move, he "snookered me. ... He made a move. He went to 47."

What a joke- going into this, everyone saw Stern tell everyone he would be prepared to "negotiate everything" and would move on the economics. Hunter negotiated the system issues under the delusion the owners would move on the economics. Stern then turns around at the last minute and pulls "we were at 47%" right out of his ass- everyone knows they were at 50-50! he then claims moving from 47% to 50% is the movement he promised. Does he think we're all idiots?! Loved his interview where he claims that the owners honouring legally binding contracts that they signed with players, was a generous "concession".

Why are the journalists questions so soft at these press conferences- no one ever challenges or grills either side, they just ask "what happened?" What do you think will happen?". What happened to holding them to account?

If Im the players I do the 50/50 BRI but I go after the rookie scale contract length and restricted free agency with a vengeance.

I bump the rookie scale across the board then lower the # of years to 2-3 years MAX with NO restricted free agency.

if this was a strike, i would expect the union reps to be asked for details/reasoning/etc more so than the owners. lockout is owner initiated, so the media scrutiny can get to maybe 57/43% split...

to the public in a small way because the NBA and its structure operates a legal monopoly. Stadiums are financed by cities and tax dollars. Unfortunately there is no leverage involved so we the people are screwed.

Yes, some arenas are financed by the public. Unless the arenas are in default due to the lack of basketball revenue there exists no public accountability.

I know contraction has been mentioned. Thats a sure fire way to screw any arenas whose tenants are pro teams.

either the league and teams are making money or arenas are (perhaps) in default. One argument negatives the other.

if league wants to claim they are not making money, then publicly financed arenas should be on the tipping point of default and have an interest in negotiations and demand for accountability.
