Can the Knicks trust Iverson? Could he be a help or a distraction if we brought him in as a Knick. He claims he changed.

Allen Iverson is eager to make a comeback to the NBA.

“I’ll play for anybody,” Iverson told Yahoo! Sports.

Iverson is 36-years-old and played only briefly last season in Turkey for Besiktas.

Iverson said his final stint in the NBA with the Sixers ended badly due to his distractions with his daughter's health
and divorce proceedings.

“That wasn’t me at all,” Iverson said. “Obviously, I was dealing with the situation with my daughter and going through a divorce, and I wasn’t there mentally. In my career those last couple years were so hard for me because I wasn’t there. Mentally, I wasn’t there.

“During those 48 minutes on the basketball court, all I [ever] cared about was that time right there. Nothing else distracted me. But at times, I felt myself standing on the court just thinking about my daughter, thinking about the situation with me and my wife. I wasn’t giving [the teams] everything I had mentally.”

Multiple reports within the past couple years said Iverson has been troubled by financial, alcohol and gambling issues. He admitted there was some truth to his personal problems but declined to go into detail.

“There are going to be people out there that say things,” Iverson said. “But it’s the same thing I teach my kids: ‘If it’s not true, why do you worry about it?’ It bothers me at times because I do have a heart, and my kids do have to hear some of those things. But that’s the only time it bothers me. I’m used to people saying a bunch of things about me that are not true.”

Iverson is willing to play a reserve role for a team.

"I’m just willing to help any squad in any capacity.

“Hopefully, one squad will believe in me and we will go from there. That would be a lot better than having to go overseas.”

Now he needs money?

NBA players sure know how to say the right things. He has said them before.

I don't think he'll be a problem but for a guy who relied on being athletic over fundamentals I don't think his BB IQ had increased the last few years (distracted)nor is he any younger. At his age, he has lost a step or two.

Iverson is not Iverson anymore. Billups might be old but he is fundamentally sound and brings intangables to the floor and the locker room.

I'd pass.

He's likely done but, what harm in bringing him in for a workout even though I don't think he fits. I don't see him being able to defend his position or, as he used to do, outscore his opposing player.
the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

I didn't like him even in his prime. I definitely don't want him now.

How many Iverson mentions are you going to make, Papabear?

The guy sucks. Stop bringing him up. He wouldn't help this team.

Before we got Shumpert, I might have been interested, but it is going to hard enough getting minutes for Douglas, Shumpert, Fields, and Billups at the 1 and 2. Iverson would just hold back the development of Shumpert and Fields. Plus, we already have one player that loves to jack up shots (Melo), we don't need another one.

We don't need Iverson. We've got enough combo guards with fresh legs and less ego to worry about. It's just too late for that kind of thinking. I'd rather bring back Anthony Carter to be honest!!!

Damn owners!!! Why the hell did they pay him so much money back in the day?????

+1 - Imagine the great impact AI would have on a developing Shump? Boggles the mind. As well as the tremendous history Melo already has with AI. Although the poetic justice of bringing AI back together with the guy he was dumped in Detroit for would also be interesting, as well as selling newspapers.

Go to China, young man. And dont' get hurt! Oh, wait, nevermind... get hurt if you want...

T feel sorry for him and hope he gets a chance to play if he needs the money, but bringing him to the Knicks would be a major step backwards in what Walsh and D'Antoni have been trying to build here.

Iverson is Tiki Barber --- old, lots and lots of mileage, has missed way too much time and nobody wants him anymore.

They are both basically yesterdays news or 4-years ago news.

I don't think it makes any sense to bring Iverson in. I also don't think guys with any type of character issues get to play for D'Antoni. I think his presence would be disruptive and I don't think he has enough left to be worth the trouble. If this happens I think it would be the first clash between the coach and new gm.

Sure he wants to play...but will he practice?

Iverson, 27, is facing court time after he and uncle Gregory Iverson allegedly barged into the West Philly apartment of his cousin, Shaun Bowman, and his roommate, Charles Jones, in the middle of the night on July 3. Police say the NBA's high scorer and 2001 MVP was hunting for his wife, Tawanna, who had been in hiding for two days--allegedly after he tossed her out on the street, naked, following a two-day argument.
