Looks like Melo made the right decision to force the issue on a trade. A lot of us considered him to be selfish because getting his money was more important than waiting a little while and being in better position as a team. If he never did what he did, he would be in a tough situation without a team and having to make a quick decision and being in a difficult place when the lockout finally ends. Right now he is focused on being a Knick and it is an advantage for us rather than getting him just before the season starts. It still doesn't change that we gave up a little too much, but it was still the right trade. If it didn't happen, we would still be speculating about getting Melo, which would have made it a full year of non-stop speculation. I for one am glad that is no longer the case. We are able to focus on how to put pieces around the stars instead of getting him.

Melo did what was good for Melo. The rest of it is the power of positive thinking!

Exactly. None of what Knix said has any bearing on whether what he did turned out to be in the Knicks' self-interest. It might not have been as rewarding financially but there are certainly ways Melo could have become a Knick other than forcing us to give up most of our young talent and many future picks.

I think a lot of people understood Melo's fear of the coming lockout. The only real issue was we had to give up an extra player or 2. I don't think there was any way that the Knicks would take a chance on him getting to free Agency. Not when they had it within their power to get him locked up. Dolan is spending $850 Mil on the Garden and having a great product on the floor is critical to his plan to get that money back plus some. I am not the least bit concerned about what we had to give up at this point it's all about looking forward. This team is a move away from being a serious threat to go deep in the playoffs. IMO if we can add a solid vet C like a Dalembert, this team is right up there with the Heat and Bulls. A fan can't complain with that.

The issue is not what the Knicks were planning but what Carmelo did. I'm not saying many people would do this but he could have just decided that no matter what, he would sign as an FA with the Knicks.
