Kenyon Martin, Wilson Chandler and J.R. Smith -- the three Denver free agents -- can't re-sign in the NBA until CBA season ends in March.

With Gallo going to Milan and Mozgov going to Russia. And I believe Ty Lawson signed somewhere, too. Gallo, Mozgov and Lawson have to come back immediately if a new CBA is signed.

But Wilson, Kmart and JR Smith must stay in China thru March. What the heck is Denver gonna do?

Seven Nuggets off to sea... RT @fakenickbravo: @alanhahn like I told you yesterday. Kenyon Martin is leaving. What is this at 8?

Lets see. Probably not going to impact them that much but obviously it hurts them in the short term. Was Denver going to resign KMart or JR? That's debatable. Chandler probably was expected to contribute this next season, but they probably would still hold his rights unless there is a drastic CBA change.

They will have some spots to fill with FA signings.

Well, if there is a season this year, it's definitely going to be a very much shortened free agency period. They'll be assembling a team on the fly.

Nene is a restricted free agent as well. He could go over seas and not have to come back, as I understand it.

It just seems like something weird is going on with Denver - to have 7 of their top 10 guys go overseas before a single game is cancelled?

Wonder where Chris Anderson is going to end up? Besides rehab.

That Melo trade's looking better and better folks.

I dunno if I'd go that far. I don't think Wilson or Gallo would've gone overseas if they were still in NY. I still have mixed feelings about the trade.

I think it's really hard to build around Melo and Stat playing side by side.

Your first point makes sense; your second point reads like "Yeah, with Wilson and Gallo we were on our way to multiple chips"

Yeah, I don't think Wilson and Gallo alone were the answer either. I liked them a lot though, as bball talent. And Felton and Mozgov, too.

I would've liked to add Nene to that group we had. Then maybe you add CP3 as well and THAT is a championship team. But I understand why the team made the trade. I just think we're gonna be a lot like the Yao Ming/TMac era Rockets - very good and go through stretches where we look like one of the leagues best, but too thin and injury prone to really make a run.

I can't imagine Denver resigning all of Martin, JR, Nene, and Wilson.

really? i don't get this. i think they'd let JR Smith leave for sure. but wilson chandler? nene? kmart? really??? that was their starting frontcourt on a team that finished pretty strong.

I guess I said it poorly, that they likley were not going to resign all four of them again. Wilson is restricted and Nene they seemed to be very much wanting to resign. The other two who really knows.

Who cares about half the crap we spew about on the UK?

Some posters are pimping supermodels in tournament as if the girls are theirs!

At least this is basketball. Denver is relevant because half our team got rostered there last year.

lets say the lockout ends in december. what are the ramifications for players to breach their contracts in china and return to the US? i wonder if FIBA governs the contracts in china (i would assume they do) and may say you have to honor them. that being said, player agents are a cunning and sneaky bunch; i am sure they have some idea as to how to get their guys out of china if the lockout ends before the chinese contract concludes.

there is such thing as an efficient breach of a contract -- maybe the players pay their way out of it? i'm intrigued. i highly doubt that wilson or JR will be playing in china until march if the NBA starts in december.

I suspect the Denver owner is one of those pushing for a hard salary cap and is willing to lose a season, so it will serve him right if we end up having a season and they've lost 3 assets. I don't understand Kenyon's logic though- he's at the age where really this would have been his last nba contract- are people really going to be interested in signing him in a years time after he'd been abroad for a year? He'll be, what 34 going on 35? with a histroy of severe knee problems? Do those Denver players know something we don't?!

Also you look at Denver now, and they've got rid of Felton (for Andre Miller who'll be starting to decline soon- and lets be honest if aging backup is what they wanted they could have just kept Billups), and lost Chandler (for nothing)- what a waste- they could have managed things better. If Mosgov doesn't pan out (and he'll probably be their starting centre next year of the lose Nene), that means all they really got from us was Gallo. It's annoying because it does seem that they screwed us out of much more than they wanted (thanks Dolan!). Those picks might come back to haunt us though...

I care about half the crap we spew on UK, because more than half of it is about my team, gadddamitt!!! [martin, good time for an "amen, brother"]

So I guess your logic makes China relevant to Knicks conversation now. If you somehow manage to make this connection to soccer or hockey, I will personally sheeit on your oatmeal.

Alba reference struck from the record for obvious reasons.
