Seems like NC and NY will both get impacted adversely. So I hope all you guys are prepared and that you stay safe. I didn't want to quote any of the 100 s of articles here just wanted to express my solidarity with y'all since most of the members of this board are in NYC. And also to Nalod who used to be my fellow North Carolinian while was still in NC.

Pleade be careful and be safe.

Thanks, I am like 250 miles from the coast and should be well out of any range of her.

Actually we could use a bit of the rain but not like she gonna dump on y'all to the north!

Good luck everyone! Stay safe and dry!

Yes, they are shutting the subways down tomorrow at noon. I can't remember them doing that in preparation for an event before. Also, they are evacuating low-lying areas. Some links:

I'm staying in town, hoping it turns out to be not so bad after all. Got some extra water, batteries, flashlights, radio... We're good here (for a few days anyway).

Lead Belly's take on Irene:

I'll be sticking it out in NY too - got some supplies and I'm ready to chill while this storm rolls by.

I heard it's been downgraded to a category 1. May not be so bad. We'll see. NC guys, how you doing?

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Here in NYC we're urged to stay inside once the storm starts. We're expecting 40+ mp winds starting tonight

+ winds increasing to hurricane force by Sunday morning.

Also it sounds as though there's a good chance electricity will be shut off in lower Manhattan to protect the lines from salt water damage.

Out here in the burbs, it's the massive rains on top of already wet ground we're concerned of. In addition to flooded basements, the fear of trees uprooting and toppling is very real.
