Did anyone buy their college text books during the summer so come august you were already a few chapters in?
The statement often made by players regarding the NBA, "it's a business", goes both ways.
These guys are (were?) taking home fat paychecks, staying in the gym until the janitor turns the lights off is no longer plausible.
Amare is a fashion mogul.
Melo is a reality tv star and business man.
Far away from 5 star basketball camp waking up at 6am and doing everything basketball until lights out.
Back in the day the greatest athletes had summer jobs, smoked and didn't have the access to specialized sports specific training centers and nutritionists.
STAT is a notorious gym rat that takes extreme care of his body. I think he'll have a positive impact on Melo and the rest of the team. His persona is so big that he's a natural leader for this group of Knicks.
He would've been training right now if not for his injury.
The will and desire to win a championship isn't reflected in working out, but in the will and dedication to playing chamionship ball every night on both ends. When STAT and Melo do that then we can be sure they really want to win a title.
What gives me hope is how they played against the Heat and in the playoffs against the C's. They competed hard for 48 mins. Even tho they didn't have to ability to beat the C's they played just as hard and with improvements in team chemistry, a more tailored game plan for using Melo and hopefully better size, this team should be able to compete in the East for a title. It's not like they looked totally outclassed with no chance. When healthy the Knicks where right there with the C's who had far more team chemistry and experience on their side. I think going into this coming season, if we have one, the Knicks will be in a better position to compete since there will be far less drama and better overall talent on the team.
