They would organize the whole team together and play and build chemistry for the rest of the summer ...... but players just think of themselves. I know they got together once, but why not play together for the rest of the lockout. Team ball wins champs

I in fact think that STAT has been a HUGE factor in this team and will be the biggest reason we win in the future. Not so much cuz of his game, but his leadership. He's been a very good leader. We haven't had one in years and even tho he has his flaws, he has stood up and said and done the right things. He took on the leadership role and going forward I think he's going to really help establish the winning attitude we need.

I saw his effect in the playoffs before he got hurt. He was fearless and gave us a chance to win. His workout approach will be great for our young guys to learn from him how to really get in shape.

They want to win a championship but don't take ALL the necessary steps to do it.

Did anyone do their summer reading during elementary school?

Did anyone buy their college text books during the summer so come august you were already a few chapters in?

The statement often made by players regarding the NBA, "it's a business", goes both ways.

These guys are (were?) taking home fat paychecks, staying in the gym until the janitor turns the lights off is no longer plausible.

Amare is a fashion mogul.
Melo is a reality tv star and business man.

Far away from 5 star basketball camp waking up at 6am and doing everything basketball until lights out.

Had enough Melo?

Back in the day the greatest athletes had summer jobs, smoked and didn't have the access to specialized sports specific training centers and nutritionists.

STAT is a notorious gym rat that takes extreme care of his body. I think he'll have a positive impact on Melo and the rest of the team. His persona is so big that he's a natural leader for this group of Knicks.
He would've been training right now if not for his injury.

The will and desire to win a championship isn't reflected in working out, but in the will and dedication to playing chamionship ball every night on both ends. When STAT and Melo do that then we can be sure they really want to win a title.

What gives me hope is how they played against the Heat and in the playoffs against the C's. They competed hard for 48 mins. Even tho they didn't have to ability to beat the C's they played just as hard and with improvements in team chemistry, a more tailored game plan for using Melo and hopefully better size, this team should be able to compete in the East for a title. It's not like they looked totally outclassed with no chance. When healthy the Knicks where right there with the C's who had far more team chemistry and experience on their side. I think going into this coming season, if we have one, the Knicks will be in a better position to compete since there will be far less drama and better overall talent on the team.

It's july. I mean, they're not playing meaningful games until november, maybe even later. Sometimes basketball isn't about doing business and work. Having breaks from basketball can be healthy in many cases. In my opinion it's about desire. I've had coaches that demanded a monthly break from bball - which is something I believe is good.

The fact that they are breaking until august then working out together is great. They needed 3 months off. By mid-august it will be go-time, and a good 2 months to begin to build team chemistry is the way to go. Hopefully Melo, Stat, Billups, Fields, Turiaf, Shumpert, Jordan, Douglas, etc can start to put something together and build some unity.

Can u imagine that these guys aren't chomping at the bit to get ready for this coming season? Last year had to light a fire in them to want to give it a go for real as a group. They have to feel like they can surpass some of the teams in the East that are ahead of them if they get a chance to develop chemistry. How would u feel knowing you'll start the year with STAT, Melo and Billups leading the team? I'd have to guess that it would give all the support players major confidence that they can be a top playoff team with a legit shot at the finals.

I think Billups would be the guy to do this but his family is in Denver, he is a father, and he is recovering from injuries. Hopefully the August workouts help the team and are well attended.

Stoudemire can barely walk. He can't even work out in any way right now. How can you expect him to organize a team workout if he can't participate in it.

I believe you're exaggerating STAT's situation.

Stoudemire said that while he can move and bend over fine, his back is still sore and it's slowly healing. In fact, the court is the last place you'll find him. Try the couch.

"Right now, all I can do is rest," Stoudemire said. "There's no rehab right now -- no cardio, no weightlifting, nothing. They say the best thing for me right now is another three weeks of rest, nothing else."

Once Stoudemire is cleared to play, his first move won't be booking a one-way international flight. He'll be organizing a "training camp" with many of his Knicks teammates. The likely site is a major college campus in Southern California.

"There are a few other facilities in other parts of the country that we may look at," Stoudemire said, "but we definitely want to get in shape and be ready in time for the season. I have another three weeks until I do another assessment on my back, and then we go from there. I'm doing research on (basketball facilities in L.A.) now. I know UCLA is revamping its facilities. USC may be a good spot."

As for teammates he's enlisted?

"We should have at least a majority (of Knicks players) here for that. Ideally, at least seven to 10 guys will join. We have a few players out here already. Landry Fields and Carmelo (Anthony) are out here. I talked to Carmelo last month. He was getting himself ready; I don't think he's cleared yet, either. Once we're all ready to go, we'll ramp it up. When I'm cleared, I'll call all the guys again and orchestrate it. All the guys are ready for it."

The article you quoted pretty much confirms what allanfan said.

What are you DAFT? The article said he can "MOVE AND BEND OVER, but it's still sore and it's SLOWLY HEALING". He hasn't been medically cleared to workout cuz they want to make sure he's healthy with no setbacks. Allanfan20 said he could barely walk!!! That's an exaggeration. Carmelo wasn't cleared to workout either, but i'm pretty sure he could if he had to.

STAT also said "Once we're all ready to go, we'll ramp it up. When I'm cleared, I'll call all the guys again and orchestrate it. All the guys are ready for it." He's not talking like a guy that has such a bad back that he won't be able to workout in a few weeks.
