My hope is we can find a good, cheap center who is an upgrade over Turiaf and can start while Jerome Jordan is developing. I really hope Jordan becomes the long-term starting center and can start by year 2. So who is the best center in the meantime? My choice is Jeff Foster because i believe he is the perfect mentor for Jordan and can start until he is ready, He has been in Indiana forever, but hopefully he wants to finish his career trying to win it all. His rebounding and defense make him a solid option, and i would love to get about 2-3 years out of him before he retires. The only major concern is his health.
Jeff Foster
Kwame Brown
Joel Pryzbilla
Kurt Thomas
Aaron Gray
Stick with Turiaf for the season, there is no better realistic option
Start Jordan right away, Turiaf as backup
Trade for a better option

Are these the only options? This is like trying to pick between ECurry and Jerome James.

A couple more cheap options:

Ryan Hollins 26, 7', 240
Krylyo Fasenko 25, 7-1, 280

These aren't guys that have rocked the NBA, but they still have upside and they're young. These are just the kinds of guys that might excel in a group of talented players like we have.

When I think of upgrade, I think of something getting significantly better. None of those guys are an upgrade over Turiaf, and if any of them are better, it's by a miniscule amount. In fact, many of those guys might be worse. He brings energy and defense and makes occasional smart plays on offense. The only bad thing is that he had a lot of injuries. I'd rather be patient until an actual "Upgrade" is presented.

Same here, but I would give Fasenko a 1 or 2 year contract.

I really like Hollins. However, he picked up his player option and will be a Cav next year. I am not sure what Fasenko's status is.

Prizbilla he is the best defender/shot blocker out of the 3. He is coming back from injury but if we can get him for near the minimum it would be a great pickup.

Foster he is the least talented and smallest but I have always enjoyed watching him hustle and he is a great team player. I havent seen him play much the past 2 years but if
he is my favorite of the 3, mentally. He can teach our youngsters and be a great player on the bench, practice, and locker room. However, I am not sure if he still has enough left in his tank. It would be steal if he can play like he did with the Pacers with JO, Artest, and Stephan Jackson days. He can do a little of everything.

Aaron Gray I liked him on the Bulls, I recall him eating us up. He has great size but his role would be limited minutes. He isn't in a great shape but he uses that size to his advantage to his game. I don't think he is a great defender/shotblocker. He would set nice screens and still would be a better center than we had last year(after melo trade)

I personally would pay the full MLE on Dalembert and Humphries, not even sure if that would be enough. I think Jordan and Jorgs will need at least a year on the bench before they can contribute. Find a way to get under the cap later for the 2012 chase, Dalembert and Humphries would be considered a good contract unless they become injured anyway. It would be a great luxury to have those guys to back up our stars if we add center, but they can be a starting center vs majority of the teams as well. They can also come in and start at PF/C if anyone gets hurt. Most importantly, they would increase our chances to be contenders with either one of em. We have to wait till they finally give out what the cap would be like before we fully decide, but I think we have to consider it regardless. We basically need the cap to be around 70m if we want to use the MLE this year, offer a max contract in the summer of 2012, and keep our players as well.

Is anyone else with me on this? I feel we should get that center we need with the MLE this year at all costs. Unless they make a hard cap and decrease the cap by a lot, which I highly doubt. We can't possibly be too far from giving a 3rd max contract out. With the players we have in contract are only

Amare
Melo
TD
Balkman they combine for about 41 mill

Shumpert
Jordan
Jorts would combine for about 45m

We don't have a lot of roster spots, we have to use them wisely. Does anyone else feel we also should consider buying out Rautins and/or Balkman? Of course we would see how they come in the camp and get a sense, but I think we should consider it and keep our eyes open for FA agents, D League, and undrafted rookies...

The C position in the NBA is so watered down there's no way you can get a really good option. You have to try and find a guy that is hungry and willing to work hard and grind. This won't be a glory position. Only Lunch Pail guys need apply. There are quite a few bigs that we can add just to have more quantity, but I don't know how much quality we can get. Dalembert is the best but most expensive option. Pryz is good, but health is shaky. I voted for Kwame in this poll cuz he's got a good combination of size, strength and experience. Turiaf and Jordan along with Jorts could be at the least a decent bunch, but adding Kwame could be a good way to solidify the starting C spot. Again, not spectacular, but effective enough.

Voted Jeff Foster. Solely on the premise that I think Mike D would like him and his demeanor. My expectations for our frontline is that we at all times have 2 capable big bodies to put in the 5 spot. I'm not sold on Turiaf being healthy all year, so either Jordan has to be brought in, or we sign one of the guys above. But I like having Jorts and Jordan developing together if we went that route.
