Heat Want Eddy Curry To Lose 40 Pounds
Jul 17, 2011 1:09 PM EDT

Eddy Curry’s predicament is clear: If he loses at least 40 more pounds during the lockout, then the Heat likely will have renewed and genuine interest because Pat Riley remains highly intrigued by the 7-foot center. The question is whether he has the discipline to achieve that mighty challenge.

Curry, 28, reportedly topped 350 pounds during his late March workout for the Heat. He lost a lot more weight — in excess of 20 pounds — between that point and late June, when he auditioned again for the Heat over several days.

But he entered the lockout still at least 40 pounds overweight, according to a league official briefed on the situation. “You watch him shoot and he’s got great touch, good hands,” said a player source who was invited to Curry’s multiplayer Heat workouts in late June. “He’s very skilled. But it’s a question of whether he gets more serious. He’s got a long way to go.”

Eddy Curry has lost weight before. The issue is really can he stay healthy... or... can he stay healthy after the first practice... or can he stay healthy on the first trip down the floor.

Or will he stay in adequate shape after he signs a contract?

How he can lose weight when there is nothing to do if he cannot when he actually played?

It's never been about talent with Eddy. He just doesn't have the fortitude and desire to be great. He just might get back to playing weight and if he does, good for him. I'm just glad we're no longer waiting on him. I supported him for years and at this point it's just good to be thinking about adding players that want to be winners rather than prodding and cajoling guys into being able to just get on the practice floor.

I think a slimmed down Eddy Curry might just be the X-factor that puts Miami over the top!

Just call McDonalds and ask them to bring the McRib back early and those 40 lbs won't be coming off.

A 290 lbs. Eddy Curry would be no worse than the 6th best center in the league. The dude has one of the softest touches around the basket that I have seen from any center. But I just don't see how he can be motivated now, when he was not before. Maybe the fact that he does not have a contract and no prospects might light a fire under his butt to really take his fitness seriously, but I am about 99% sure Eddy Curry will be out of the NBA within the next season (he probably will convince some fool to sign him to a minimum contract on a hope and prayer that he pans out, but after that he will go the way of Oliver Miller).

He could lose 100 pounds and unless he gets calf transplants, he's still going to be hurt halfway through training camp.

And please no photoshops of eddy's calves.

A 290 lbs. Eddy Curry would be no worse than the 6th best center lard-ass in the league. The dude has one of the softest touches around the basket that I have seen from any center. But I just don't see how he can be motivated now, when he was not before. Maybe the fact that he does not have a contract and no prospects might largest appetites the universe has ever seen. Maybe the McRib coming back will light a fire under his butt to really take his fitness professional eating more seriously, but I am about 99% sure Eddy Curry will be out of the NBA within the next season entering the Coney Island Nathan's Hotdog Eating Contest next year(he probably will convince some fool to sign him to a minimum contract on a hope and prayer that he pans out, but after that he will go the way of Oliver Miller Kobayashi).

Fixed.

Re-fixed. Minor edit; I remember Oliver Miller.

The strange thing is that he DID slim down pretty good this past year for the Knicks. He actually looked pretty good in some pictures. His face was thin. It was kind of shocking. Then got hurt again. As soon as he gets hurt or has any kind of setback because of personal issues etc... he balloons up 50-60 pounds almost immediately.

Curry has no heart. If that dude had the heart of a guy like Ewing or Oakley, he would be no worse than the second best center in the league. I get sprains and pulls all the time on the basketball court and I play through it and I am not even getting paid. This dude gets a calf strain and he is out for 3 weeks. It is freaking unbelievable.

Reality will hit him in the fact when he is 29 years old and no one will touch him and he is dead broke. He did not go to college and can no longer play basketball. He is going to be a sad case.
