Everybody knows that the biggest business around NBA is not NBA itself but betting on NBA game.
It accounts for billions and everybody including players, owners, stuff, refs, and fans are involved.
Big mobster organizations are behind the deals collecting cache and laundering dirty money...
How long they will allow to have only betting on when the lockout ends? I thing not too long....

One thing about gamblers; they'll bet on any sports. When one game dries up, they just move their money to the next. True, you can develop a comfort level, betting on pro BB, with it's 82 game schedule, but most of those guys don't seem to skip a beat.

Deep. Except that Dolan could care less. You can say the same for most owners. Its all about the feeling that you are right and that you won. Which almost never happens. So we'll see how good their lawyers are.

I wish the players would threaten to start their own league. I bet the owners would pony up quite quickly...

Reports I have heard is that the sides are farther apart than in 98 when they had a 50 game season. I think the owners are very determined to create a no fail system for owners and the players are now starting to look for leverage in other ways i.e. playing overseas to improve their position. I think ninimally the preseason is lost and my guess is that if there is a season it will be abbreviated like 98.

And how do you think the players would pull this off? You don't think they will have the same problems? What happens when Kobe, Lebron, etc want a bigger piece of the profits because they are the ones bringing in the revenue?

The fighting would create a rift and I guarantee you there would eventually be some sort of work stoppage while they debate who should get more money.

No doubt this would be met with hearty laughter. Do people think its that easy to create a new league and bring in the amount of money it would take to sustain the current level of salaries?

There is no way the players could setup a league that would pay them like the NBA, but if 80% or more of the players were on board and guys with deep pockets took the lead, the players could setup an ABA like league. It would take at least a year to work out the details, but there are plenty of empty or underused arenas around the country. It would probably be a moot point because why setup a league that pays less than what the owners are willing to pay in the NBA, but the thinking could be that while this new league would pay less initially, if the players did effectively shut down the NBA, in 3-4 years they could be making the same or more money if they have more ownership interests in the teams. It would be unprecedented in American sports as far as I know, but it is something the players should be looking into. Just by starting the process that in itself should give the players a bigger stick to force the owners to rethink their position.

At the end of the day a deal is gonna be made, the owners aren't getting new players, and the players are not forming no league of there own.

I can't believe that if your that far apart on a deal, you would take your sweet time in coming back to the negotiation table, setting up meeting (during the regular season) months apart is ridiculous. Now that a lockout has been place against the players, they schedule meetings weeks apart (scracthing my head), What happen to going at this every other day.

This whole thing is just crazy. Just like the Democrats and Republicans, these people are out of touch with reality. Since they're all basically dealing with 6 and 7 figures they can't act like reasonable people and make a deal that is fair to both sides. Creative economic thinkers could surely come up with a system that would benefit both sides equally. The owners IMO are trying to make their situation foolproof on the backs of the players. that's why i'm against them. It's really on them to come up with a Revenue Sharing plan amongst themselves that could address this issue, but the big city owners won't go for it. It's all about greed. LA and NY rake in the dough due to their huge viewer markets, meanwhile small city teams have no means to make as much money. The OWNERS are the ones that need to fix that issue.

1. Contract the league by 2 teams.
2. Share the TV revenue more equally
3. Take the players offer to reduce their % of the BRI.
4. Increase the amount of Tax Penalty for teams going over cap.

These kinds of changes would solve the problem IMO.
