He's a joke he has done close to nothing since he joined the lakers , he is starting to remind me of Rodman when he went to the Lakers and then Mavericks at the end of his career

Unlike Rodman he doesn't get into as much notoriety, instead he has done some ridiculously philanthropic things like donating his only ring. I love this dude and more power to him being an individual who doesn't follow the herd mentality.

"Metta is going to be the first name and it means like friendship, love and kindness," Artest told Stephen A. Smith on 710 ESPNLA earlier this month. "World Peace is going to be the last name, so everybody can get ready to buy their World Peace jerseys."

Artest told Yahoo! Sports he plans to wear No. 70 next season, but the NBA has rules that prevent players from switching their uniform number from year to year. The deadline for a player to change his number is in early March to have it go into effect for the next season and once a number is changed, it has to be worn for five seasons with that team before a player is allowed to change it (unless he is traded to a new team or leaves as a free agent).

Artest wore No. 37 after signing on as a free agent with the Lakers in 2009-10 and did switch to No. 15 last season. It's not clear what he had to do to accomplish that.

The uniform rule does not come with any stipulations for a name change, however.

It's unusual, but more power to him for using his celebrity status to promote a cause he identifies with. He dances to his own beat. Selling chips to raise money for charity and changing his name to use his NBA uniform as a platform for social change is not so hard to accept. As long as he takes care of his ish on the court.

I hope he gets teamed up with Kevin Love at some point. It will bring back the '60's - Love and World Peace!

People change. I'm going to Give good ole Ron; i.e., World Peace a Chance. Happy to see him express his beliefs so definitively and publically. Actually, I'm very surprised that there is hardly any support for peace /anti-war these days from the younger generation or from the singers and music community. Really, "War, what is good for?"
