I have been looking for a draft choice for the Knicks that I could get enthusiastic about. JaJuan Johnson is who I finally found. He is expected to be picked toward the end of the first round, later than when the Knicks currently pick. At 6' 10 inches he is both fast, and athletic (excellent 38" vertical). He also blocks shots as well. What originally turned me off is that he only weighed 220 pounds (7.5 body fat). For a guy 6 foot 10, it would seem like he wouldn't be strong enough to battle for rebounds and position down low. But JuJuan is confident he can build up to 240. After he bulks up, his new size may allow him to improve his rebounding and defending contributions.

I like guys who are self confident, hard workers who keep trying to do better. JaJaun went from scoring 5 points to 13 points to 15 points to 20 points over 4 years. Rebounds when from 3 to 5 to 7 to 8.6. Free throw % went from .65 to .74 to .72 to .81. He also blocks a couple of shots a game. Curious to know who else has looked at JaJaun and whether anyone else is enthusiastic about ability to play in the NBA?

I don't worry too much about weight unless the player is consistently pushed around. Tayshawn Prince was a rail when he came in (still pretty thin) but that didn't stop him. Kevin Durant is pretty skinny and look at what he did. Not saying Durant or Johnson shouldn't put on weight but some players are strong without carrying a lot of bulk.

I don't know anything about Johnson but he sounds like he's worth keeping an eye on.

Vucevic did contribute two extra rebounds a game last year and at this point shoots better from the outside than JaJaun. But I think J Johnson offers a better combination of overall talents for the Knicks because his superior athleticism will allow him to play far better off the ball defense for the Knicks as well as running the floor better on the offensive end. Also his higher free throw percentage shooting, perhaps indicates that he has the potential to shoot accurately from the outside to and help the Knicks spread the floor. Vucevic is a below average athlete limited to playing below the rim. That is usually not something you are willing to settle for?

Its funny but Johnson was my mental pick for some time. he has a lot of + and is not talked about at all. Certainly he is talented and athletic enough to be worthy of pick 17. Vucevic is younger and bigger but we would not go wrong with Johnson.

Johnson is a solid prospect, but i don't see him any better than Warrick down the road. Maybe he's a better shooter, but he's not nearly the athlete. Still, he would be great for depth if we add a late first rounder. I am warming to Vucevic if Thompson is gone because i love his size and skills for a center. He reminds me of Marc Gasol. His only weakness is lack of athletic ability and if he was a better athlete he would be a top-5 pick. In comparison to what we had with Mozgov, i feel Vucevic can come in and despite being 4 years younger is more nba ready because of his skills and bball iq. He is not the athletic, but a better rebounded and scorer.

The thing some people dont account for is everyone doesnt keep their speed and hops with an additional 20 pounds.

Guys like Glen Davis and Eddy Curry are heavy yet move better than people lighter then them.

Jeremy Tyler
Weight: 262 lbs
No Step Vert: 28 inches
Max Vert: 33.5 inches
Body Fat: 13%
